1. Incentive - scare the living shit out of them with close call meteor/asteroid detections by NASA.
2. Explain the scale of the solar system with practical comparisons.
3. Break it down in stages - leaving Earth's gravity, head off to another world, landing, settling, coming back ... sometimes.
4. By this time the scale of the problem should be somewhat apparent to them. Well, more or less. Hit them with the solutions proposed by awesome humans.
5. At this point you will lose half your audience for psychological reasons. Many will feel completely inadequate and empty. We can call that the Elon syndrome, if you will. Envy will come, then anger, then cope.
