Restoring dignity and easing the burdens of displaced women and girls is at the core of our shared humanity.
Thank you to #EHF for this partnership with @UNHCREthiopia.
Every step forward brings more hope to these women and girls who were forced to flee.
For displaced girls, managing periods without basic resources adds intense stress to an already difficult situation.
With #EHF, @UNHCREthiopia has delivered dignity kits to +12,197 women & girls in #Gambella, providing 3 months of essential period support. 🩸
A brilliant example of what strong partnerships can achieve. Thank you @EU_Partnerships, @RRSEthiopia, and local leadership @SRSPresident_ for turning the vision of long-term refugee integration into reality. Strengthening national systems starts at the community level. 🌍✨
This is inclusion in action, delighted to witness this major milestone in Kebribeyah. 875 homes mean 875 families gain stability, security, and a shared future with their host community. Great coordination by all teams on the ground. 🏗️🏡
Proud to see the tangible results of our work in #Tigray. Safe spaces give women like Amtencheal the tools and confidence to stand on their own again.
Thank you to #EHF for making this vital @UNHCREthiopia support possible! ✨
"Here, I am rebuilding my confidence & standing on my own," says Amtencheal in Adigrat.
With thanks to the Ethiopia Humanitarian Fund (#EHF), @UNHCREthiopia is strengthening Women & Girls Safe Spaces in #Tigray, providing psychosocial care & life-skills training.💙
Thank you Ambassador @SMHaderaAbera for the very productive discussion. UNHCR will continue supporting #Ethiopia in the implementation of the Makatet Roadmap, for greater refugee inclusion, and to improving the lives of refugees & the generous Ethiopian communities hosting them.
In Ethiopia’s Gambella region, High Commissioner @BarhamSalih met some of the 450,000 South Sudanese refugees hosted here.
With resources strained, thousands of new arrivals expected from renewed conflict in South Sudan need lifesaving aid now, while seeking lasting solutions.
Today’s Tripartite meeting with DRC & Rwanda is an important opportunity to advance overdue solutions for Congolese & Rwandan refugees in the Great Lakes.
We will continue to support these efforts to restoring hope, dignity & stability. https://t.co/t3dznQykoK
IGAD Reaffirms Support for Refugee Inclusion in Ethiopia
H.E. IGAD Deputy Executive Secretary Mohamed Abdi Ware participated in the launch of the MAKATET Roadmap: National Framework for the Socio-Economic Inclusion of Refugees in Ethiopia at the historic Adwa Museum in Addis Ababa.
Hosted by H.E. Teyiba Hassen, Director General of Ethiopia's Refugees and Returnees Service (RRS), the event brought together senior government officials, development partners, diplomats, civil society, and refugee-led organizations.
In his remarks, H.E. Mohamed Abdi Ware commended Ethiopia's longstanding tradition of providing refuge and protection to those fleeing conflict and reaffirmed IGAD's commitment to supporting the implementation of the MAKATET Roadmap and strengthening regional cooperation on refugee inclusion and durable solutions.
This afternoon, we met @BarhamSalih & team, reaffirming our shared commitment to refugee protection, inclusion & durable solutions. Our discussion highlighted the vitality of strengthing partnerships & continued solidarity to keep the resilience of refugees & generosity of hosts.
Five days in Ethiopia. Evidence that solutions are possible.

International community must step up its support & investment to sustain that leadership.
On #WorldRefugeeDay, refugees in Ura Settlement🇪🇹shared their experience with a delegation led by @Refugees High Commissioner Barham Salih.
🇨🇭stands alongside partners supporting the #MakatetRoadmap—promoting inclusion and shared services for refugees and host communities.
With the official launch of the #ማካተት (MAKATET) roadmap by the Refugee and Returnee Service (RRS) @RRSEthiopia, we celebrate the power of recognized identity and the spirit of true inclusion. In #Ethiopia, the government has moved beyond temporary fixes, housing, and embracing refugees as its own by fully welcoming them into the national community.
For refugee entrepreneurs like Nadine, the National Fayda ID is a game-changer. It unlocks access to vital services and economic opportunities, making it easier than ever to start and grow a business side-by-side with host communities.
Because at the heart of Fayda—and the #MAKATET roadmap—is a simple principle: no one is left behind.

Refugee return is a cornerstone of solutions to end the plight of people forced to flee.
The Tripartite process marks renewed hope for thousands of Congolese & Rwandan refugees in the Great Lakes. Displacement is only a chapter, not the full story.

In Addis Ababa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, together with UNHCR, renewed their shared commitment to voluntary, safe & dignified refugee returns. The ministerial Tripartite Commission adopted a new 2026–27 roadmap to strengthen repatriation, reintegration & support for refugees rebuilding their lives.
As momentum for peace grows in the Great Lakes region, resolving long-standing displacement is not only a humanitarian imperative—it is an investment in stability, recovery & durable solutions.
These efforts build on recent political progress, including the Washington accord and the Doha process, with appreciation for the continued support of the African Union.
Gambella faces a profound humanitarian challenge: 450,000 refugees— more arriving. UNHCR is providing life‑saving support, but resources are stretched. In Jewi camp, ~70,000 rely on one doctor! Support is needed to advance inclusion &self‑reliance through Ethiopia’s Mekatet plan
In Gambella, High Commissioner @BarhamSalih saw both challenge and possibility: limited local resources shared for years and refugees stepping up to support their communities.
A reminder that without investment in inclusion, today’s emergencies are tomorrow’s protracted crises.
Marking #WorldRefugeeDay in Ura Refugee Settlement, @WFP joined partners to spotlight the right to seek safety and advance refugee resilience & inclusion in Ethiopia.
