FCRA Amendment Bill: At least somewhere, the government's stance is clear: the hefty external funding coming into India, primarily from the US, will decrease. Individuals and organisations solely focused on obtaining these funds will face scrutiny. It is reasonable to tighten security measures to reduce foreign interference from the US and other nations in India. These ongoing protests also shed light on external funding sources, aiding the development of the FCRA Amendment Bill. This bill aims to close a loophole that allows NGOs to continue their activities after their FCRA licences are revoked by transferring foreign-funded assets to new entities.
Such measures will enhance transparency and accountability,
• prevent misuse of foreign funds,
• bolster national security, ensure regulatory compliance,
• and make penalties more effective.
