She booked a taxi to get home and, during the ride, asked the driver to take a longer route.
"Don't worry about the fare," she reportedly said. "I'll pay the extra amount."
Trusting her word, the driver changed the route as requested.
But when the trip ended, the situation took an unexpected turn.
Instead of paying the higher fare, she insisted she would only pay the original amount shown before the route change. The driver tried to explain that the detour was made at her request, but she refused to pay the difference and walked away.
If this version of events is accurate, it raises an important question:
Should passengers be expected to honor the commitments they make during a ride, or should drivers bear the loss?
