Positive news from Geneva: 128 states have reached consensus in the GGE LAWS. As military technology is evolving rapidly, this marks an important step in the regulation of lethal autonomous weapon systems that the Netherlands, in its capacity as Chair, helped shape.

Today the First Committee begins its 80th session. As I hand the gavel to Ambassador @MauMassari , I'm grateful for the honor of chairing the 79th—where I continued Costa Rica's commitment to disarmament as the first woman Permanent Representative and second woman in history to lead this Committee.

My tenure reaffirmed that "peace knows no borders and has no deadlines." It requires collective effort, sincere dialogue, and trust.

Peace is possible, though it often requires a thousand attempts. Wishing Ambassador Mazzari success in the critical work ahead.
