@altryne@thursdai_pod The silent sabotage by way of changing user prompts and vector steering WITHOUT the user knowing is bonkers, crazier than 4.8 degradation. How would you ever trust it with production changes without knowing you’ve accidentally tripped the wire?
@SnikneWille@sethbannon@wyqtor Exactly this. To change user prompts and vector steering WITHOUT making that known to the user is sabotaging. The choice to degrade to Opus 4.8 (as they do with cybersec, bio) is being sidelined in favor of opacity. Can only assume the worst.
Imagine AWS announcing in 2017 that EC2 instances would run invisibly slower if it detected you were building a competing cloud.
Anthropic just shipped exactly that for Fable 5 and called it a safeguard.
@BlackHC@jeremyphoward Sorry, not trying to be disrespectful. But since they are not being transparent about what they are doing, I cannot assume they are being above board. Why not just obviously degrade to 4.8 unless doing something subvert?
@aykutuz@BlackHC@jeremyphoward If that is true, then they should stop acting like their motives for halting competing progress is for the good of humanity. Can’t have it both ways.
@BlackHC@jeremyphoward Then let me help you with critical thinking. Since the user has no visibility into that prompt, are you able to imagine a prompt that sabotages the user’s intent?
This is what's happening to YouTube. This is one of my most popular videos. It's how to fix a UEFI bootloader. As you can see the traffic has been cut in half over the last 6 months.
But if you Google how to fix a UEFI bootloader, Gemini will give you my exact step by step process. Even the commands it cites are copied directly from my video.
I got no royalty payments and don't even get a link to the original video. I simply lost the traffic and Google is able to provide more value from stolen content.
AI is going to destroy the content industry on the internet and when it's gone, there will be nothing left to train the AI. Since AI can't come up with anything original it relies on stolen content and it can't steal what doesn't exist if it puts creators out of business.
@amir_dor@AnthropicAI ya i do that and appreciate the heads up. my feeling is that if they silently bump income with the tokenizer and then again with less reasoning, they are making money coming and going and being underhanded. not who i want to send money to.
i don't know who needs to hear this, but hopefully @AnthropicAI is aggregating this feedback somewhere... opus 4.7 sucks. it's awful and more expensive and i'm ready to leave the claude code cult.
@garrett_makes Feels like Opus 3.5 got repackaged as 4.7.
At least when Windows flubs a release you can usually still use the previous version until the new is largely usable. Sadly not the case with Anthropic models for coding.
@LeoTava8@simonw As someone who is working on 3 new greenfield apps, 1 app inherited from sloppy offshore team, and another 15 year old PHP app running Symfony 1, I can say that I whole heartedly disagree.
Opus 4.6/7 have been very capable single shotting Jira tickets and good architecture.
