This is really heartbreaking. This man is working to house him and his boyfriend Abdul because capitalism derives them from the product of their labor.
there's a therapeutic technique called behavioral activation which can be a little confusing in therapy speak, but i found these memes that explain it in examples very well ^_^
- reads from teleprompter
- immediately starts with October 7th
- still won’t call it a genocide
- says he doesn’t know enough about what’s happening
- makes no apology to Macklemore or addresses dropping him from the tour
- doesn’t mention where his donation will be going to
- doesn’t encourage anyone to donate
- won’t say Israel is the reason Gaza is suffering
- won’t say free Palestine
- only cries when he sees people showed up to the concert because that’s what he cares more about.
Fuck him.
She was seventeen years old. A mob of about a dozen men took her out of a jail cell and hanged her in the street. Marie Scott. Wagoner, Oklahoma, 1914.
Accounts of what happened are consistent on the core: a white man had forced his way into her home and attacked her, and her brother killed him defending her. Her brother escaped.
So they took the girl instead. She is one of the very few documented lynching of a Black woman in Oklahoma, and one of the youngest women in the national record.
Seventeen. Held in a cell, taken from a cell, and killed for surviving an assault that her attacker did not survive.
Nobody was charged. Say her name — most people have never heard it once.
Marie Scott was seventeen. Her story is one of up to 150 cases documented in our book.
Most people have never heard her name. That’s exactly why we documented it. Get yours https://t.co/V6OJtazidd
I need everyone to understand that if this had been done, for example, by Iranian forces to an Iranian, the US press would have made this person an international mega celebrity by now
Republicans want to make it illegal for children to speak to doctors and teachers without their consent because they are worried about what the kids will say.
The Venus flytrap grows wild in one place on Earth. The federal government says they're doing fine. Conservationists launched a lawsuit over that last week.
Wild flytraps exist only within about a 90-mile radius of Wilmington, North Carolina, spilling just into South Carolina. Nowhere else. They need longleaf pine wetlands that burn regularly, and both the burning and the wetlands have been disappearing under one of the fastest-developing stretches of coast in the country.
Fish and Wildlife declined to list them in 2023, finding the population stable and sufficiently protected by state law. The lawsuit filed this month argues they've declined 98% and that what's left sits in a handful of isolated populations facing sea level rise and continued poaching.
Population estimates range from 35,000 to 400,000 depending on who counted. But [oaching is the part nobody disputes.
It's been a felony to poach a flytrap in North Carolina since 2014, and every single plant counts as a separate offense.
In 2015, four men were caught at Holly Shelter Game Land with 970 flytraps. In 2019 a man arrested with 200 plants faced 73 felony counts and a $750,000 bond. In 2024, two people took nearly 600 from conservation land at Boiling Spring Lakes.
A poacher can clear a bog in an afternoon. Law enforcement out there is thin, and the poachers know it. Many do get away with it.
Wolf hunting opened today in MT & WY, 11 days after Trump's order. MT admitted it overcounted its wolves by 30%, then set a quota of 300 wolves anyway. WY just lost most of a year's pups to distemper & still opened the season. Tell Burgum: don't delist. https://t.co/9x8HVWzKtZ
If a fox turns up in your neighborhood, the correct response is to do nothing and feel lucky.
Foxes eat a lot of mice. One stomach study found rodents making up close to half the diet.
White-footed mice are the main reservoir for the Lyme bacterium in the eastern US. Ticks hatch clean and pick it up from their first blood meal, and 40 to 90% of the ones that feed on a mouse come away carrying it. Fewer mice, fewer infected ticks. All thanks to your local fox.
But the better part is what a fox does to the mice it doesn't catch. In field experiments, just the scent and sign of a fox nearby cut rodent activity by more than half.
The mice stop foraging in the open, move less, range less, and meet fewer ticks. One fox changes mouse behavior across far more ground than it could ever physically hunt.
So: don't call anyone. Don't trap it. Definitely don't shoot at it. A fox trotting through a neighborhood in daylight isn't sick and isn't after your kids.
And skip the rat poison. A poisoned rodent takes days to die and spends them staggering around in the open, which makes it the easiest meal available. The fox eats it and gets sick too.
If you keep chickens, remember that fox attacks are a coop problem, not a fox problem. Hardware cloth, buried, birds locked in at night. That's on you.
Otherwise just let it work. It's the cheapest rodent control nature has to offer.
