For the Conservation Team at @FairchildGarden and @USFWS, past reintroductions of fragile Sand flax proved difficult. It turns out they just needed a nurse! Now, with support from @SoutheastPca and Muhly grass nurse plants, they are ready to augment wild populations!
#botany
The first species of our new Project Spotlight Series is Polygonella basiramia (Wireweed). Our partners at @BokTower and @ArchboldStation are working to complete population monitoring, seed & leaf tissue collection, & germination trials to support this federally listed species.
Heritage botanists from the SE U.S. gathered in February with the goal of updating global ranks for 40 SE plants. In the end, the group worked on global ranks for 96 species! Thank you @natureserve and partners for facilitating these rank updates! 🌿📷 #botany#plantconservation

You can be a citizen scientist! Although Monarch migration is winding down, you can still report sightings for @journeynorthorg on their website and be part of the larger community of citizen scientists contributing to scientific research from their own backyards. 🦋

We humbly acknowledge the indigenous people of the SE and seek to conserve species and natural systems nurtured by those stewards as we recognize the impacts of colonialism and irreparable losses that have been endured by the original inhabitants. https://t.co/WlUIPGPPz3
