Narmada, Gujarat: Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the Gujarat government’s tourist guide training initiative is creating employment opportunities for local youth while improving visitors’ experience at major tourist destinations. Around 150 trained tourist guides have been deployed at the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar, where lakhs of tourists visit every year. The government has declared 2026 as ‘Gujarat Tourism Year’ and decided to professionally train 1,000 tourist guides across the state. Guides are being trained in Hindi, English and Gujarati, along with tourist behaviour and knowledge of major attractions. The initiative is helping provide sustainable livelihoods to local youth while making travel experiences more informative and memorable for tourists
Gujarat: Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government, through the ‘Sujalam Sufalam Yojana’ and ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign, has removed over 221 lakh cubic metres of silt from reservoirs, canals, rivers and other water bodies between 2022-23 and 2024-25, surpassing the target of 203 lakh cubic metres. The desilting and restoration work was carried out at 1,474 locations across the state with the help of heavy machinery. In Junagadh’s Manavadar taluka, a Rs 6.5 crore project to deepen and expand Dagad and Jambuda lakes is underway, which is expected to increase water storage capacity by nearly three times and improve irrigation and drinking water supply for nearby villages and farmlands.
Surat, Gujarat: A modern library developed under the Gujarat government’s ‘Vatan Prem Yojana’ in Nani Bhatlav village of Bardoli taluka has become a major support system for students preparing for competitive exams. Started by young sarpanch Ankit Chaudhary during the Covid period, the library was later expanded with NRI support and government funding. The 24-hour free facility provides books, WiFi and mock test facilities to students from 15 to 20 nearby villages. More than 100 students visit daily, and several former students have secured jobs in government and private sectors.
