okay here's a problem.
all this self-work has done a great job at reducing the amount of fear i generally carry with me.
but it also means i've lost motivation to do stuff that fear drove me to do.
i kinda feel this way about my creative pursuits, namely software dev.
seeking questions to ask people at a (work, holiday) party which can help me get to know them (and help them know themselves) on a deeper level, and are also fun & respectful
i know there have been tpot threads about this!
love this.
during my "awakening journey" (idk whether to call it that) over the past couple years i've come to rely too heavily on protoscientific concept-maps to explain reality without actually confronting it.
on one hand, hotwire/turbo removing typescript fragments the community somewhat and sacrifices correctness.
on the other hand, LLM-assisted programming is making manual static types less and less necessary
coming to see that there is a danger in orienting around psychological frameworks as a map towards growth.
an important step maybe, but can grasp too hard. too easy to detach and lose sight of oneself.
> The stages, even at their very best, are only indicators of development. To orient around the indicators of development is to risk losing the *person developing*, a risk at no time more unacceptable than when we are accompanying persons in transition, persons who may themselves feel they are losing the person developing.
@HeidiPriebe1 Have you looked at Kegan's constructive developmentalism?
The question of 'I' sort of becomes 'What structures my knowing of being?' / 'What is the source of my self-concept?'
The reconstruction of 'I' as a process sounds like stage 4-5 transition.
"These descriptions, rendered in this fashion, will have all the objectionable features of 'types.' They capture no one's particularity, but if they are in some way true they may suggest a kind of order or meaning for those particulars."
Beautifully succinct preface for many kinds of categorization systems.
Being on the cusp of this, the way I'm trying to ameliorate this is to shift perspectives: from Tech career as the source of identity to object.
This feels like a Kegan stage 3-4 transition thing
"Even in the midst of charged and often irritable relations between men and women, East and West, we have the opportunity to drop back and consider the whole of which we are a part. When we do, something quite beautiful and moving appears: a single community of people who together give expression to the full complexity of being alive; a universality which each of us can find reflected in ourselves (the woman in every man, the Easterner in every Westerner)."
Been a while since I've posted!
Trying a new approach to twitter:
@spe_ for professional, software career-oriented stuff. More curated, filtered.
@cosmictealatte for more personal, stream-of-consciousness stuff. Less filtered.
Follow me there if interested.
