@aliceisplaying@QiaochuYuan@liminal_warmth permutation city is nominally about uploads but then gets into "dust theory" which is trippy
diaspora is cosmic drama with neopronoun computer protag
distress is bio hacking scifi with 7 genders & ai video journalism (in 95)
zendegi is about llm video game npcs (in 2010)
two important things for new vibe coders
1. use version control
2. do not let the *model* touch the version control
commits are the natural moment for code review. ask questions if you don't understand the diff, point out stuff that looks weird or bad, etc.
@billyhumblebrag originally i told it never to touch version control bc i didnt trust it not to do something dumb while rebasing and accidentally permadelete some history or something. now i think its smart enough to be ok, but i still want to code review and manually committing is when to do it
@erdavtyan@allTheYud this knowledge is not available in books. you have to go deep. down into the deeply nested comment threads on really old blog posts.
@thkostolansky@QiaochuYuan for chess i had noticed i kept starting games and being like wait why did i do that but then finishing the game bc i didnt want to lose/resign. removing it from the homescreen broke the habit loop and then it kinda went away.
vs twitter i actually(?) want to open it
@avi_eisen@ApriiSR@IsaacKing314 i did try the leela lichess bot with queen+rooks odds and i did win that one. basically you just trade down until it's a simple winning endgame and there's nothing it can do if you don't blunder. i needed the extra rooks bc i blundered a few times, but good players can just not
@avi_eisen@ApriiSR@IsaacKing314 i think this is more about chess being (relatively) easy, than superintelligence being dumb
e.g. i can definitely draw superintelligence at tic tac toe
i dont think i can beat leela up a queen, but im just not that good at chess. anyone decent (not just GMs) could probly win
@lumpenspace@beffjezos@CIMCAI@Grimezsz@schisofrenia i cant speak for grimes but as a fence sitter myself i feel like most disagreements are epistemic, not about values. i vibe w beff's writing and with eliezer's (especially the old techno optimist let's-end-death-forever calls to action). the camp thing seems at least 50% social
@tallsnail premixed single use formula bottles are more expensive but we got them just for being lazy sometimes on night feeds bc they are maximum easy (just have them by the bed at room temp, you can grab them while still half asleep)
@Rididelduol good question, i have a bunch of extras right now because my prescription changed halfway through the year unexpectedly, no idea what to do with them
you actually do have free will, but it's more practical to act as if you don't, so you aren't tempted by mistakes like two boxing in newcomb's problem
(joke)
