Communities have a responsibility to protect children from abuse. High-control groups increase the risk. Empower children to speak to protect themselves.
A reminder to those who need to hear this today.
It takes immense courage to step away from family, especially when it’s for your safety, healing, or freedom.
Choosing yourself is brave. Your future matters. 💪🏼💛
Thank you @abuse_justice for your expertise and support on the subject of mandatory reporting of #csa at the meeting. If only politicians would listen to experts like yourself on why this is vital.
Great to meet up with the APPG and @thirtyoneeight to see how we can make changes. Thank you @justhumphreysuk for yesterday and was great to hear from @ColinBloom
Why do I feel that CSA just isn’t important to our government? It’s like banging your head against a brick wall getting MPs to see children’s safety/innocence as sacred/vital. Mandatory reporting, like other countries have, shouldn’t even have to be dressed up when asking them!
The Truth Project found that children abused in the context of a religious organisation were (a) less likely to report and when they did (b) more likely to report internally.

Children in religious organisations outside of mainstream religions are not protected by any laws from #csa by this government. Hence we need mandatory reporting to stop CSA being kept in house!
Jehovah’s Witnesses still give high school students this same advice to not go to college/Uni. Yet the age they could have gone here means themselves, their children and grandchildren could have qualified!
How psychologically damaging might this be? Isolating a child from those outside the group means the child won’t stray from the religious group because it fears those outside it. Knowing should the child leave when older they will be cast outside alone, shunned. Clever/cruel
