This articulates something I’ve been thinking lately so perfectly.
#ActuallyAutistic people don’t necessarily have the luxury of ignoring a throwaway comment you make. Sometimes, “Everybody feels that way, though” is enough to send you spiralling
@MelanieCreane I literally have a therapist/mentor whose main job is to help me work out travel plans. I went on the bus with them for the first time in six years. It was so simple but I could not have done it alone.
@WomanAspie That said, while I'll never be a people person, I do find myself craving male company. I think if I had the need or the opportunity I would get on equally well with them, if not better.
@WomanAspie I honestly wonder about this. For me, it's women--but I think that's because I went to a single-sex school. so I had to learn to understand girls. Whereas I had next to no exposure to men, so I can't 'hack' them and that makes me uncomfortable.
#AskingAutistics Do you tend to get along better with a certain gender? For instance, I'm a woman and have always found it easier to relate to men. I was just wondering if you find that there is a preference or theme for you? #Autism#ActuallyAutistic#aspielife#gender
This whole thing is one of the most powerful statements of what "neurodiversity" really means that I've ever read. Enough with the straw men and rank BS. This is the stuff. Thanks, @ltaylorparker [via @slooterman] https://t.co/AV2cx5osRN
