Got my first paying customer on PostEngage today.
Shipped Branded Links and in-app notifications this morning. A few hours later, invoice #0001 came in.
Small number. Doesn't feel small.
Built a background remover that doesn't hide the full size download behind a paywall.
Free. No sign up. No watermark. No daily limit.
Also erases date stamps, objects, random people, whatever you paint over.

They run a sneaker and streetwear drop site, DMs flooded with people asking about restocks and sizes. Branded Links means their own domain shows up in those replies instead of ours.
Wild watching someone's actual business use the thing you built.
Every new Node project:
npm install pino pino-pretty pino-roll pino-redact pino-http pino-nestjs
...then 4 configs, then DIY tracing, then a DB transport you write yourself.
So I built logixia. One install: console, file rotation, Postgres/Mongo/MySQL/SQLite, NestJS, tracing, OTel, redaction, Prometheus.

What’s something you do every week that makes you think:
“There HAS to be a better way to do this.”
Could be anything:
• repetitive work
• spreadsheets
• reporting
• finding information
• customer support
• marketing
• coding
• admin
• anything you currently do manually
Tell me what you’re doing today.
If someone built a tool that completely removed this pain, would you pay for it?
And how much?
$10 / $25 / $50 / $100+ per month
I might build the most painful one.
Indie hackers / founders:
What’s ONE problem you deal with repeatedly that you wish someone would just build a simple tool for?
Not a “cool-to-have” idea.
Something that genuinely wastes your time, money, or sanity.
Reply with:
• What’s the problem?
• How do you solve it today?
• If someone built a really good solution, would you pay for it?
• Roughly how much? $10 / $25 / $50 / $100+ per month
I’m looking for problems worth building around.
@Joshua_WD yeah the named page trick saved me a ton of hacks. the toc was the annoying part, needed a two-pass build so the page numbers land right. are you doing anything with paged media yourself or just curious?
i'm a software engineer, so when i published my novels on amazon kdp i didn't open indesign once
4 paperbacks. 486 print pages. every single one is html + css → pdf
built with claude. here's the pipeline ↓
the stack:
markdown manuscript → pandoc → json
python + weasyprint renders the 6x9 print interior
same source → epub for kindle + docx
one source of truth, three formats. a typo fix is one command, not a re-export
css paged media, almost no manual nudging. weasyprint handles it:
- orphans: 2 / widows: 2 on paragraphs
- break-before: page on every chapter (named page, so no running head on the opener)
- break-inside: avoid on the "system" boxes and journal cards so they never split across pages
then i render, flip through the pdf, fix the 2-3 ugly spots per book

Comment on an issue and I'll assign it. I review PRs within a day or two.
If you can't contribute this month, a star still helps people find them.
Two of my open source projects are taking Hacktoberfest PRs:
phpm: a Composer-compatible PHP installer in Rust, 80+ issues
logixia: an async-first TypeScript logger, 30+ issues
Every issue says which files to change, what to do, and the test command. Small ones take a couple of hours.
Hacktoberfest: logixia has 30+ open issues, most of them good first issues.
It's an async-first TypeScript logger (NestJS, OpenTelemetry, redaction). Open work: tests, Fastify/Hono/Next.js examples, Slack and Discord transports, small bug fixes. 5 PRs from new contributors merged this week.

A star helps.
Hacktoberfest: phpm has 80+ open issues for contributors.
phpm is a Composer-compatible PHP installer written in Rust. The issues are scoped tests, Composer-parity bugs, error messages, docs and Windows fixes. Each names the files and the test command.
