Awful. This morning 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was stabbed by 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony at a track meet in Frisco. He died in his twin brother’s arms. Incomprehensible. Pray for his family.

When I started Third Point in 1995 I was lucky to scrape together $3mm from friends and multiple family members. After graduating college I had 6 jobs from VC to the music business, a small risk arb shop, 3 man PE/advisory boutique, to Jefferies bond analyst/salesman, Citi bond sales. I got rejected from Harvard, Stanford and Wharton business schools before working at Jefferies. Also I hadn’t had a job in 9 months when they hired me a few months before my 30th bday. So I went from being unemployed to making good money in bond sales to starting my hedge fund in 4 years.
Of course I had some good luck along the way but you never know what direction life will take, you do have to keep going as cliché as that may sound.
