@viahalfspace@SebC__ The “Untold” episode on the 03-07 NBA betting scandal is a fact-challenged *purposeful* manipulation of documented history based on discredited pathological liar Tim Donaghy’s long ago debunked false narrative. If interested this thread helps explain:

As I’ve entertained media inquiries about the @netflix “Untold” episode on the @nba betting scandal involving fmr referee Tim Donaghy, one topic which keeps being raised is the 12/06 mtg b/w Donaghy and his co-conspirators, his bf Tommy Martino and TM's pal Jimmy Battista. 1/X

Yesterday, at the @EBpolicing conference, I shared just a handful of the stories I’ve heard about how mainstream criminology/criminal justice faculty and graduate students have treated their policing colleagues these last few years. 👇🏻

Disheartening that in 2026 a District Attorney is so unfamiliar with the basics of the crime prevention literature that they would say this. There needs to be a higher bar for this important office.
Last year, among 15-19 year-olds, the ratio of black firearms homicide victimization to white firearms homicide victimization was 21:1. Twenty-one to one! (And this was actually an improvement from a 2021 peak of 27:1.)
It was literally that simple. NYC Subway did this in 1991, for what it's worth. I'm sure other cities have done similarly. And then we all forget and start from scratch and wonder how we can deal with disorder, or if "disorder is just a social construct."
@DustinDopirak@DeVonAmbitious Re discredited pathological liar Donaghy supposedly having a “gambling problem” he first claimed this while seeking a lighter prison sentence. Of course post-prison the career con man ran a gambling site while giving lectures on the ills of gambling.
@DustinDopirak@DeVonAmbitious FYI “the mob” had nothing to do with Donaghy’s on-court actions 2003-07. Donaghy only learned gangsters copied some of the 06-07 bets after the scandal was ended by pro gamblers. By the 06-07 portion of the scandal numerous parties worldwide were copying bets on games he fixed.
Eight years ago today, just after 10 a.m. on May 14, 2018, the Supreme Court released a game-changing decision that sparked the spread of legal sports betting across the U.S.
Has your sports betting experience improved, worsened or stayed the same since the spread of legalization?

@MannyTerrebonne@MitchyGallo@MichaelFarber3@TSN690 Of course. That’s why I was specific re “participants”. Participants shared bets with others, offshore books copied them (and more), etc. The figures were staggering collectively worldwide
@MannyTerrebonne@MitchyGallo@MichaelFarber3@TSN690 The total number of games officiated/fixed by Donaghy bet as part of the four-season scandal is between 132 and 175, and the total amount wagered by scandal participants on games officiated by Donaghy during the 2003-07 NBA betting scandal is approximately $80,950,000.
