The SCOTUS decision on this, Castle Rock, is really grim shit too. A woman had a preexisting restraining order against her ex-husband, who kidnapped her kids. She called the police repeatedly to try to get them to enforce it, and they did nothing at all as he murdered them.
Periodic reminder that, despite being given immunity to US laws in the line of duty, cops have absolutely zero reciprocal obligation to take action to stop a crime in progress. They can literally just sit in their cars while a school shooting is going on!
@allamericanrube I think it’s important, for the sake of basic sanity, to experience a benefit from your own efforts, first-hand. Involvement with large-scale politics in this country prevents you from feeling it. The unceasing chaotic welter and tragedy directly obstructs personal agency.
@allamericanrube I’ve gradually found myself becoming more curious and less reactive toward certain conservative strains of thought than I was throughout my 20’s, and yeah, it essentially stems from this realization. I don’t like it, I don’t celebrate or glorify it, but it is the truth.
ICE is on the scene of a shooting that took place in a heavily Hispanic school so undocumented parents have to consider arrest deportation before they go check to see if their kids are alive. What a fucking country.
