Why did students at the University of Montana cheer & laugh when I told them my friend, Charlie Kirk, had been shot?

I’ve been thinking about this for a day now and want to share some thoughts.

This generation is lost. They are the first in our nation to not even know the Gospel story. They don’t know who made them or why. They’ve lived their entire lives thinking they were disposable and could’ve been killed when they were at their most vulnerable, in the womb.

Yet, everyone has a god. So, many of them have chosen politics as their god.

The first President they remember is Barack Obama, the master of Saul Alinksy tactics who believes to produce change means pitting the “haves” vs the “have nots.” They don’t remember the days when Ds and Rs would spar in Congress but call each other friends.

They just know the other side is their enemy and the media and leaders they look up too as their religious leaders say the same thing. So, when the enemy of their god was assassinated…they cheered.

They didn’t care he was a decent, moral father, husband, and friend. They didn’t care about what he has really said or his joyfulness and willingness to always talk with those with whom he disagreed. They thought this would make their god happy…so they cheered.

We have to teach the generation why they matter and why all human life matters. They need to learn disagreement doesn’t merit a death sentence. We have to do better or we will lose our nation forever.

Reason or violence. It’s one or the other.
