Best-selling author Dave Eggers has a new novel out this week, telling the story of two art-obsessed friends over many decades.
There’s much more to the author’s own story as well.
@JeffreyBrown reports from San Francisco.
Tonight, we’re thinking of the children whose lives were stolen by gun violence—and the empty rooms, empty seats, and empty futures they left behind.
Congratulations to the team behind All the Empty Rooms on your #Oscar win. Thank you for honoring these young lives with such care and humanity, and for reminding the world why their stories must never be forgotten.
Dorothea Lange used her camera to capture life in America during the Great Depression.
Best known for her work with the Farm Security Administration (FSA), Lange documented the lives of sharecroppers, migrant workers, and displaced families during the 1930s. Her images brought national attention to communities that were often overlooked and helped shape the future of documentary photography.
Today, NYPL holds about 40,000 photographs from the FSA collection, taken during the 1930s and 1940s by Lange and other photographers.

@Caltrain has won a national award for its video last summer that dunked on the Dodgers.
The clip, filmed near the agency’s San Carlos offices, was designed to encourage fans to take the train to Oracle Park. It drew more than 250,000 views on TikTok and Instagram within 24 hours — becoming Caltrain’s fastest-growing video ever.
“It just seemed like a fun way to encourage people to take advantage of our service and have some fun with the rivalry,” Caltrain spokesperson Dan Lieberman told SFGATE.
Because so many of you are talking about Friday’s C-SPAN caller who identified himself as “John Barron,” we want to put this to rest: it was not the president. The call came from a central Virginia phone number and came while the president was in a widely covered, in-person White-House meeting with the governors. Tune into C-SPAN for the actual president at the State of the Union Address on Tuesday night.
