I campaigned for years to free Assange, and since then I’ve focussed on Imran Khan.
Now Assange is back, and following only one person on X, Imran.
Why is Imran Khan’s case so pivotal?
A thread 🧵 👇
This is what my sons are up against- acid attacks & beatings by goons IN THE UK against outspoken critics of the current Pakistani government / Army. Trial next year.

@grok tell me how many women were raped by Pakistan army in East Pakistan and how many people the army killed in East Pakistan during operation search light?
@MarioNawfal A bit of a background. This person was made a Senator (unelected) by the hybrid military regime, patronised by Sharif family, solely on the grounds that his late father served Sharif family all his life, through think and thin (more like crime and grime). His worldview therefore is predictably that of ‘master and servant’ or that of ‘transactional’ nature, I.e. people only say things because they serve other people or are paid to say it. Ignore the buffoon !
Responding to the arbitrary detention of members of former prime minister Imran Khan’s family, including his three sisters, as well as activists from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ahead of the party’s planned protests and march on 27 September:
“The targeting of Imran Khan’s family and PTI party activists is a flagrant violation of their rights to liberty, freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. Such actions speak to the severity of the current restrictions in Pakistan.
“The pre-emptive arrests of PTI members come ahead of planned country-wide protests by the party on 27 September, which government officials have openly vowed to stop. Roadblocks are already being erected in Islamabad. These developments do not bode well, especially given the authorities’ long track record of reckless and unlawful use of force against protesters. A protest cannot be deemed violent before it has even started. Pakistan’s authorities must uphold their obligations under international human rights law to facilitate peaceful assembly and refrain from unlawful measures to thwart these protests."

As Imran Khan’s entire family (including kids) are abducted in Pakistan, a reminder that both @commonwealthsec and @EU_Commission have enabled the military regime at every turn. The @SGCommonwealth suppressed a damning report on the 2024 elections which only became public because of @DropSiteNews. Meanwhile @EUPakistan simply handed over its elections report to the regime that benefited from rigging the election!
The Commonwealth and EU have been silent as the elected prime minister of Pakistan languishes in a death cell, the military rips up the constitution, destroys any notion of judicial independence, outlaws freedom of expression through PECA, and is now collectively punishing Khan’s entire family because of a call to protest.
These “democracy and human rights defending institutions” are not dying because of Trump. They are dying because of their own hypocrisy!
@SeedaBalla93 true, proper little man type physique and grinds and grinds and grinds. No PR whatsoever, no big runs but enough potential like Asim Kamal
Cricket legend Imran Khan is rotting to death in a tiny jail cell in Pakistan. It's time Britain used its influence to help free him

Boris Johnson speaks out in support of Imran Khan.
In a newly released video message, the former UK Prime Minister urges people to join his campaign calling for Imran Khan's release from prison.
Very powerful and much needed intervention from former Prime Minister @BorisJohnson calling on Pakistan to free @ImranKhanPTI
“What the Pakistani generals fear is that if they let him out, his millions of fans in Pakistan will simply bear him aloft to a tumultuous victory in the next available election. That is why they are treating him with such cruelty – refusing even to allow his two sons, Sulaiman and Kasim, to have visas to visit him in jail.”
