I get a lot of messages from well wishers here to tone it down/remain neutral, otherwise it is not good for 'career'.

Firstly, I don't know why is there even this silly expectation out of academics or those with public voice to remain neutral in the face of oppression and violence when neutrality is the most political of all the positions.

I spent 10 years doing BA, MPhil and PhD in Political Science, and another 10 years deep in the policy space, not to publish about present horrors as journal articles 25 years from now but to be able to recognise the patterns of oppression today and call them out. I owe it to my profession and to the people.

As for the 'career'; if my ability to speak truth to power is bad for my career, I really don't have a career worth saving.

To be able to pick a side in times like these is probably the greatest thing one could do both, personally and professionally.

When the dust settles down we will recognise the true extent of how much these elections have changed Pakistani politics and power structure.

1. There is a new establishment in town: the people!

2. There is no appetite for Nawaz Sharif & Bhutto’s brand of politics

3. The future of politics is technology

4. Army is no more welcome in politics

5. That debate between democracy vs benevolent dictator is done with. People have finally recognised why democracy is needed.

After whole day of working from volunteers to people, MQM goons came to our polling station in the evening to start casting votes on the remaining books. Then they had a fight w PPP people & at the end, MQM won by taking all the empty books with them to stamp their party votes.
