More than 8 million living in SoCal to be affected by critical to extreme fire wx conditions Thursday. Highest level of fire danger threat (extreme) @NWSSPC has assigned to the hills/mtns east of San Diego. #CAwx#FireWx
Normally if it would rain significantly by now, this wouldn't be a fire concern. However, due to no significant rain and weeks since the last [little] rain, fuels are very dry-- energy release component 95-97th percentile for the area for this time of year (red areas shown).
Longer term, fire weather concerns may persist through mid-month, starting with another potential event 07/08 December.
While still uncertain in some aspects, a low may inside-slide its way into a position that stacks the upper level winds with an offshore flow. #CAwx#FireWX
The latest GFS runs haven't been too lenient through mid-month-- if more upper level lows continue to inside slide like this, it would create multiple offshore wind events back-to-back.
