New Anthropic Science Blog: Making Claude a chemist.
To manipulate a molecule, chemists first need to understand its structure. Their main tool is NMR spectroscopy.
We found Opus 4.7 matches—and on some tasks beats—dedicated NMR software. Read more: https://t.co/1jUvz7wdhV
H-1Bs?
It’s just a distraction.
Companies don’t magically switch to American talent just because visas get more expensive.
Raising the cost of an H-1B doesn’t “bring jobs back.”
It just forces companies to offshore faster. We are already seeing this since that 100K fee was introduced.
It’s a no brainier for companies to pay a $100K fee when they need a specialist… and move everything else to India, Poland, LATAM, wherever.
And when U.S. jobs disappear? The media will just say:
“Who do we blame for what companies do?”
Companies love this fight because it keeps everyone arguing about visas
while they re-architect their workforce offshore in the background. I can see this happening in the data.
Stop fighting the wrong battle.
Punishing visas without fixing the incentives just accelerates the offshoring machine.
The more you corner a company, the faster jobs will leave the room… like literally to another country.
Focus on the architecture, not the outrage. Architecture is what delivers risk.
America is great because people come from all over the world to start businesses here. Nearly half of unicorn company founders are immigrants.

@AndrewIrelandIN Modern medicine research is a highly specialized field and requires extensive training. Many people have potential to develop the skills but please many of you are ready to spend >70 hours a week for 5 years in graduate schools to be able to be qualified for these roles
@AndrewIrelandIN “Kids should have fun…” but not studies, and too much sports than STEM time etc. many kids end up not being prepared for the intense higher education! Noe many of you whined all those h1b roles should go to citizens (aka white kids). I suggest please fix education system first
By far the most disturbing ICE video I’ve seen from Evanston, IL today.
An ICE agent points his gun at unarmed citizens. Twice.
Then, he goes around the SUV, drops to his knees, and presses his full weight onto a man’s back. Moments later, that same man’s head is beaten into the pavement while the agent holds his head down.
When they finally pull him up, his face is swollen and dazed… clearly concussed… and then they slam his head into the SUV and pin it there with their shoulder.
You can’t watch this and call it law enforcement. This is excessive force and criminal assault.
Unless Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is fired, Chairman Jim Jordan should immediately begin Judiciary Committee impeachment proceedings against her. And if he doesn’t, Democrats will launch our own impeachment inquiry into the shocking constitutional crimes and corruption defining her tenure.
"She literally said, 'I need you to prove that you're a U.S. citizen.'"
Minneapolis rideshare driver shares video with OutFront after being stopped by border patrol agents, who cited his accent.
What has unfolded in Minneapolis this past month betrays our most basic values as Americans. We are not a nation that guns down our citizens in the street. We are not a nation that allows our citizens to be brutalized for exercising their constitutional rights. We are not a nation that tramples the 4th Amendment and tolerates our neighbors being terrorized. The people of Minnesota have stood strong — helping community members in unimaginable circumstances, speaking out against injustice when they see it, and holding our government accountable to the people. Minnesotans have reminded us all what it is to be American, and they have suffered enough at the hands of this Administration. Violence and terror have no place in the United States of America, especially when it’s our own government targeting American citizens.
No single person can destroy what America stands for and believes in, not even a President, if we — all of America — stand up and speak out. We know who we are. It's time to show the world. More importantly, it's time to show ourselves.
Now, justice requires full, fair, and transparent investigations into the deaths of the two Americans who lost their lives in the city they called home. Jill and I are sending strength to the families and communities who love Alex Pretti and Renee Good as we all mourn their senseless deaths.
