As an AD, you have to be willing to make the difficult decision to replace or remove an athlete who refuses to live up to the team standard, regardless of their talent.
If there is no accountability because a player is too talented to replace, your culture will eventually suffer. One athlete who consistently puts themselves above the team can poison an entire program.
Talent can help you win games, but culture is what sustains success.
In the long run, a group of athletes who fully buy into what you are trying to build will always be more valuable than one all star who is selfish, entitled, and determined to do things their own way.
Protect the standard. Protect the culture. The program comes first.

RPR → Speed Drills → 2 × 30-10 Flys.
Total time: 16 minutes.
109 varsity players got :08-:10 of high speed exposure
Tell me again you don’t have time to train speed.

Summer is when athletes actually separate. The schools that get it have a real high school strength coach, so the kids who aren’t doing extra training don’t get left behind while everyone else pulls away.
Most coaches who say kids are soft now a days have not developed the ability to emotionally connect with players. They’ve gotten so used to yelling as coaching, they don’t realize certain kids just need that little extra love and time before you can yell at them!
There should be no Spring Ball for HS & also no football coach can require or mandate off season workouts or weight-room. All hands off & let them do spring sports
@BrinkleyDJustin@uscfan981@StephenCurry30 Griffey won 2 World Series and batted .300 in his 19 year career. Dale was 6th man of the year once. Google is free. Happy Father’s Day!
Fathers Day thought. I am not better than anyone else but I am saying this from a place of experience and failure. Don’t waste your summers playing sport. Go on trips. Make memories. Let them enjoy being a kid! When they get to HS their summers are taken with sport anyways.
@mar5hallhoops@RightSideUp5000 +30 HS regular season games. That’s more than an NBA season. God forbid these kids play another sport or have an offseason.

The hardest transition of my coaching career was going from being a successful high school and collegiate athlete to being a coach.
As an athlete, I knew how to push, compete, and respond when things got hard. What I had to learn as a coach was that not every kid’s path is going to look like mine did.
That humbled me.
Coaching is not about giving kids what worked for me. It is about learning what each kid needs from me.
Track & field is one of the last places in a school where the football captain, the valedictorian, the band kid, the wrestler, and the quiet kid who never thought he belonged can all wear the same jersey.
Track does not care what a kid’s last name is, how much money he has, what side of town he lives on, or how popular he is. Out here, none of that matters. Somewhere between the workouts, the bus rides, and the meets, kids who might never have spoken to each other start to build real respect.
It is hard not to respect somebody when you have seen what they are willing to push through and how much they are willing to give.
That is a big reason track & field will always mean more to me than just times, marks, and points.
It’s always fascinated me that college and professional sports organizations with the best coaches in the world trust qualified S&C coaches to handle performance.
But at the high school level, coaches with no background at all often wear that hat.
Put the kids first before ego.
Seeing all these high schoolers in the hall on their scooters with ACL and MCL tears is really something.
How many of these kids are going to have lifelong walking problems beginning in their twenties because their parents pushed them into year round club sports?
The problem I think most S&C has with conditioning is that they aren't creative enough to do without using running as a means to develop it.
If I'm training powerful or explosive people, the last thing I'm using as a conditioning means is running/jogging.
