Andy Burnham says he wants to end rough sleeping. While making a BBC Radio 4 programme on the issue, I interviewed him. He blamed it all on Tory cuts. But two care leavers sleeping rough told me their hostel was full of migrants. The CSJ says migrants make up a quarter of rough sleepers, rising to half in London. If the PM wants to fix rough sleeping, he must fix migration. Wishful thinking isn’t a housing policy.

Very well spotted by Max. I wrote about this for @TheCriticMag at the start of 2025 when this emerged on the agenda.

This is no ordinary social security pact which allows for posted workers serving on overseas secondments to have temporary relief from certain taxes.

This is part of India's deliberate foreign and trade policy push to expand Indian emigration the country can receive remittance income. They are doing the same with countries like Australia and Canada as well.

A five year National Insurance exemption for Indian workers in Britain is no ordinary social security pact. It is essentially a subsidy for firms in the UK to bring Indian workers to the country at a discount, while unemployment grows at home.
