It takes a special kind of "creativity" to miscast the principal characters of the Ramayana so completely. One wonders whether the filmmakers ever opened the Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa before deciding how Rāma and Sītā should look.

Vālmīki doesn't leave their appearance to imagination. From head to toe, he describes them in remarkable detail, in perfect harmony with Samudrika Lakshana. Yet we are served a Sītā who bears little resemblance to that description. There is no mention of a nose ring in the Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa. Sītā did not wear a modern blouse but a different style of upper garment. She is described as radiant, graceful, healthy, and possessing exquisitely proportioned features, including a sharp, beautiful nose—not someone who looks more like a palace maid than the princess of Mithilā.

Ironically, more effort seems to have gone into ignoring the original text than into faithfully representing it.

Every Hindu knows the story of Lord Narasimha bursting out of a pillar to save his devotee.

Almost nobody knows the pillar was real and you can visit the exact spot and Temple.

It's deep in a forest in Andhra Pradesh. It's called Ahobilam.

Let me take you there 🧵

Ahobilam sits in the Nallamala Hills of the Eastern Ghats, in Nandyal district. Not a temple in a town, a complex of NINE shrines scattered across 5 km of wild, dense forest.

This is where the fourth avatar of Vishnu appeared. The story we all grew up with happened here.

Hiranyakashipu, the demon king, had a boon, he could not be killed by man or beast, by day or night, indoors or outdoors, on earth or in the sky, by any weapon. He believed himself immortal. He declared himself God.

But his own son, Prahlada, refused to worship anyone but Vishnu.

Enraged, the father pointed to a stone pillar and mocked "Is your Vishnu in this pillar too?"

And he struck it.

From that pillar burst Narasimha, neither man nor beast, at twilight neither day nor night, on a threshold neither in nor out, lifting the demon onto his lap neither on earth nor sky, tearing him apart with claws, no weapon at all.

Every condition of the boon, undone at once.

The devas watching cried out "Ahobalam!", "What great strength!"

That cry became the name. Ahobilam. Now the wonder of the place. There isn't one temple here. There are NINE. The Nava Narasimha.

Nine different forms of the Lord, each self-manifested, each in a different spot across the forest and hills.

Jwala Narasimha - at the fiercest spot, where he is said to have actually killed the demon. Ahobila Narasimha - the main, oldest shrine, the fierce Ugra form. Malola Narasimha - the gentle form, with Lakshmi. Yogananda Narasimha - where he taught Prahlada yoga after the fury had passed. Kroda, Karanja, Bhargava, Kshatravata, and Pavana Narasimha -scattered deeper into the wild.

And here's what makes Ahobilam different from every comfortable temple you've visited. You have to earn it.
The shrines are not on a road. To reach them, you trek, 8 to 10 km through dense forest, rocky climbs, streams, and waterfalls. Some shrines sit inside caves. One takes 450 steps up a near-vertical face.

The entire Nallamala range is believed to be Adisesha, the great serpent, lying across the land, his hood at Tirumala (Tirupati), his middle coils here at Ahobilam, his tail at Srisailam. Three of the holiest sites in India, on one sacred serpent.

The Brahmanda Purana names this very hill as the site of Hiranyakashipu's ancient palace. Every rock here is scripture.

Ahobilam is one of the 108 Divya Desams, the holiest Vishnu temples in existence. The Vijayanagara emperors built the shrines at each site in the 14th-15th centuries.

And it is considered the single most powerful place on earth to chant the Narasimha Kavacham, the shield of Narasimha, believed to protect the devotee from all fear and evil.

We drive to famous temples, take a quick darshan, and leave. Ahobilam asks more of you. It asks you to walk into a forest, climb until your legs give out, and meet God where he first tore through the fabric of the world to keep a promise to a child.

If you ever make the journey, start at the foothill shrine of Prahlada, and climb.

Some temples you visit. This one, you undertake.

Why do conservative parents have children who turn leftist? I will narrate my own childhood experience.

I studied 6th to 9th standard in a free government aided school started by a DMK affiliated person. I did not hear any DMK messaging there.

Then 10th to 12th, I moved to a free school funded by an RSS affilated person and had an RSS man as trustee. I did not even know what the RSS was and heard nothing about the RSS as a student.

But in my 10th standard in that school, I had a Marxist Tamil teacher. His entire class was about the coming Marxist revolution (this was in 1982-83). For a period I became a Marxist and atheist thanks to him. I was 14.

He taught us to question everything and question authority and I asked him "Sir, when the revolution comes and everything is owned by the government, would everything become corrupt like the electricity board or the telephone department?" and he said "After the revolution, people will develop socialist consciousness and so everything will work better".

I could not accept that answer so Marxism lost its appeal for me but thanks to his influence that one year, I remained an atheist for many years. My mother saw this transformation in me (I used to be a religious kid) and always blamed him for it but even she would say "you must respect the Guru".

This is what conservative parents have to endure. Their very respect for the educational system has been weaponized by the Marxists.

Remember that the school had an RSS man as trustee and as a student I had not heard one word about RSS, yet the Marxist teacher was free to brainwash kids like me. That is right vs left for you.

India could have been a semiconductor superpower in 1964 but Congress spent the next 50 years making sure every opportunity was killed before it started, the story of what we lost becomes impossible to read without anger.

In 1964 Robert Noyce, the co-founder of Intel, came to India with a complete blueprint to make this country the global leader in chip manufacturing. He did not come empty handed. He came with the technology, the vision and the intent to build something that would have changed India's trajectory for generations.

Congress sent him to 50 government offices.

He got tired. He left. He went to Hong Kong. And Hong Kong's fortunes changed instead of ours.

That was not bad luck. That was a policy outcome.

The story did not end there. In 1989 India's only chip plant, SCL Mohali, burned down in a fire. The government took 8 years to rebuild it. 8 years. In a sector where technology generations turn over faster than most government files get processed.

Then 2005. Intel was ready to bring a 700 million dollar plant to India. UPA government refused to offer tax incentives. Intel walked. In the same era AMD's imported equipment sat at Indian ports for years gathering dust before being sent back to the country it came from.

By 2014 India did not have a single commercial chip fabrication plant. Not one.

The country that produces a significant portion of the world's semiconductor engineers. The country that built ISRO's computational infrastructure. The country whose mathematicians and scientists power Silicon Valley. Had zero chip plants of its own after 50 years of governance that treated every serious investor like a bureaucratic inconvenience.

Now look at the last 12 years.

Over 25 billion dollars committed under India's Semiconductor Mission. Micron's plant operational in Gujarat. 80,000 wafers being produced monthly at Taloja. Tata's Assam plant packaging 48 million chips daily. Tata Electronics partnering with ASML for the Dholera fab. India entering the semiconductor supply chain that three countries controlled for decades.

The talent was always here.

The difference between 1964 and 2024 is not technology. It is not capital. It is not engineering capability.

It is a government that finally said yes instead of sending the investor to the 51st office.

The act of Govt led by @TVKVijayHQ of handing over Pattas for 3084 acres Karur Temple inam land to public is not to be seen as an act done in isolation. A forgotten past story that will confirm this trend follows...
We, Hindus, dormant, keep waiting, thinking that others will take action and are good only in reacting rather than acting. Do you know that Madurai Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple's 49 acres Vandiyur land worth several thousands Crores is now occupied by Roman Catholic Mission St Mary's Church, ably supported by the then Govt? Whether it was successive Govts led by DMK or ADMK, Temples' interests came as the last priority. Lets see how this happened..... Endowment land was bought by RCM in 1894 from a priest who was INAM beneficiary, thus not the legal owner of the title. The sale was held as illegal by RDO in 1948 contending that temple is the owner, further confirmed by Dist Collector and Dist Judge in 1949 and 1954. On an appeal by RCM the HC in 1959 ruled in favour of RCM. This Order was quashed by SC in further appeal by the Temple administration in 1966, rendering the sale to RCM as illagal. The Govt. changed in 1967, seized this as opportunity to betray Hindus in favour of RCM. In 1968, Tahsildar ruled in favour of the Church, overruling the SC verdict. It was ironical that Tahsildar under DMK Govt had more legal power than that of the SC judge! The HR&CE Dept. @tnhrcedept kept quiet instead of appealing against the contempt. In 2013 an activist by RTI found this fiasco. Also it was found that the successive Govt led by Dr. MGR awarded a GENEROUS Rs 8406 as annual compensation to be paid by RCM to the Temple. This is the secularism and religious harmony these past Govts have been practising. Lesson learnt: Govts will keep Court Orders at bay and act in their contempt to please other religious institutions at the cost of interests of our sacred temples. It is high time that we pursue against this legally. WE WILL, very shortly. For us the interests of Madurai Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple is paramount.

I have zero interest in your recent political squabbles or despicable ad hominem attacks of respective leaders. I am interested only in our sacred Thamizhagam that's an integral part of our beloved Bharat. Yet some bad apples are wantonly provoking me into this fight.

My pride in Tamil is hard earned, because unlike most shrill "Thamizhan da" voices here, I have actually read Sangam, Bhakti, and modern Tamil literary works. Literally none of our ancestors detested Sanskrit or Brahmins or the Shanmathas (6 faiths). Every Tamil work of note celebrated "Vadakku" Himalayas and had invocations for "North Indian" gods like Shiva/Rama/Ganesha. Avvai Paati literally uses "அன்னையும் பிதாவும் (Tamil + Sanskrit)", instead of "அன்னையும் தந்தையும்" (Tamil only). So is Valluvar, so is Ilangovadigal.

But TN has been polluted by a toxic hateful ideology for a century now, as Vaariyaar rightly said. This Dstock mindset hides its hatred of Hinduism behind a mask of unearned Tamil pride. Anti-Sanskrit is the first way it manifests itself.

This Dstock mindset has polluted all pockets of TN, so its not restricted to DMK alone, it can be a TVK/NTK/BJP/WTL member who can speak the same hateful and divisive language. There is an intellectual dishonesty of those asking for Thirupugazh worship without even reading it, just purely to virtue signal as "Thamizhan da".

Arunagirinadhar himself has worshipped Murugar with Sanskrit Namo Namaha in his Thirupugazh. Thirumuruga Vaariyaar Swamigal insisted on the importance of Sanskrit mantras but he was physically attacked by those with Dstock mindset who even broke his Muruga idol. So we can clearly see who is truly a Muruga Bhakta and a Tamil lover, and who is merely larping on the internet for his political agenda.

So this mindset will be criticized no matter which party it comes from. Loyalty to Dharma, always. Loyalty to ANY party is ONLY when it aligns with Dharma.

So the bad apples who behave like DJP and WDL (We Dravidian Leaders) should excuse those of us who are criticizing the Dstock mindset across party lines. You do your job and let us do ours. In Tamil Nadu - those who contributed immensely to the Tamil language and civilization, and whose mother tongue is Tamil, are branded as “Vandheris.”

Those who worship the very same Bhagawans — Bhagawan Murugan, Bhagawan Shiva, Bhagawan Venkatesa, and Devi — are treated like “Anniyans” or outsiders.

But people whose mother tongue is Urdu, who revere Arabic scriptures, who identify more with desert-based religious culture than with Tamil civilization, and who often do not emotionally identify with Tamil Hindu heritage, are readily accepted as “Tamilians” by these very groups.

Such is the contradiction and hypocrisy of the Dravidian mindset. At its core, it increasingly appears driven not by inclusivity, but by deep-rooted hostility towards Brahmins and Hindus in the larger civilizational context.
