We often hear about Parliamentarians Across Party Lines - on issues when they pass bills, give the ayes, on the greater interest of India, Indians and humankind. The revocation of Article 370 is the most recent example where not only BJP, but many other Indian political parties that typically oppose the BJP supported the action.

On 11th March, at Constitution Club, New Delhi, we saw a brief glimpse of that when Parliamentarians across party lines joined the deliberation to "Empower Political Participation" of the divyangs in India. In 2015 we experienced this solidarity for the disability sector. That year had seen complete break down of parliamentary sessions with the ruling dispensation and the opposition locking horns over every issue. Not a single Bill moved. When it was the turn for our bill, the amount of hard work done by the divyangs themselves, parents of children with disabilities, activists and experts is heroic. Javed Abidi deserves being mentioned. Every minister, every parliamentarian, every legislator in every state was met, briefed, tweeted to. Meetings, candle light vigils, rallies, media briefings, small group discussions, briefings to press, consumed our days and night.

And the impossible happened. The single Bill to be passed in that session was our rights based law. Parliamentarians Across Party Lines rose to debate, discuss and pass the bill. Bill became a law. A law the entire world looks up to for its strength, power and mandates. Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.
Disability is an apolitical issue. Perhaps was. What we are trying now is to bring the focus on "Divyang Citizens and Their Political Participation." We are not 2.1% of population, we are 16%.... whether you count or not. Know more from us. Join our journey. Together we can.
