This morning, we were notified that Hearst Magazines has laid off 41 of our unit members. Due to “company restructuring,” we are losing talented people whose creativity and institutional knowledge is immeasurable. (1/5)

WE DID IT JOE! With more than 96% voting YES, we have officially ratified our first collective bargaining agreement with @WGAEast. Here are the highlights:
BREAKING NEWS: We have reached a deal! Details tk, but we're so proud of our awesome bargaining committee, @WGAEast organizers and staff, and our entire unit for reaching a historic win not just for @Hearst but for the entire media industry. Hearst has a union contract, world!
Breaking news!!!
If we don’t secure a contract TODAY, a strong (and growing supermajority) of our 500-person unit have signed a ULP strike pledge saying they’re willing to walk off the job.
@runnersworld@ACShilton And don't miss @DaveHolmes ft. marathon legends on the surreal, the magic Eliud Kipchoge: "In Kipchoge’s world, we’re all a little bit less certain that limits exist at all, that there is anything the human mind, will, body, and soul can’t accomplish."

"If you’ve ever watched Kipchoge run on TV, it's possible that your brain has thought, you know, he actually doesn’t look like he’s going all that fast.
Your brain is wrong."
For @runnersworld, @ACShilton makes sense of what we're witnessing this morning

FWIW these mandatory increases are way less than at @TPM. Like half as much.
TPM does about $3m in revenue. Hearst does about $12 billion. Seems off to me, no?
These salary numbers are where Hearst wants us to land after two years of bargaining. This is how little management values its employees and the hard work we all do. These numbers are below industry standard, a slap in the face to the unit.
There are Editors in Chief at @Hearst brands who are eligible for bonuses that are NEARLY DOUBLE what some of our lowest paid employees make.
How is that fair?
We need equity. Now.
🚨🚨🚨
We are WALKING OUT across all Hearst locations this THURSDAY at 1 p.m. ET.
We've been negotiating for more than two years and we’re done waiting. It’s time for a fair contract. Watch this space tomorrow for more details.

We have filed, yet again, another ULP against @Hearst for their regressive bargaining over salary increases. Hearst is refusing to give our members any salary increases until 2024. 🧵
Hundreds of union members at the @HearstUnion and I have been waiting since 11am ET today for mgmt to show up to our bargaining session.
How is this "bargaining in good faith"?
Another example of stunning investigative storytelling by our @UCBerkeleyIRP students/alums. @margiecullen2 and @marshall_anne expose a hidden world of torment inside elite girls high school running programs.
for @runnersworld, @marshall_anne & @margiecullen2 'unraveled a youth running culture for girls that pushes the most promising young athletes into intense, year-round training that may batter their bodies with effects that last far beyond high school.'

Trigger warning, a tough listen here: Remember early 2020, how impossible it was to know what to ask about the plague we knew was on its way? Well, @srjacobson1@cjr let me compile the early work of those who caught us in free fall. https://t.co/Gq1Kbfzo4L
NEW: CJR's latest issue is a story by @Jon_Allsop that takes a look at the past two-plus years of journalists scrambling to make sense of an ever-changing pandemic.
