Egyptian goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir is the son of the goalkeeper who played in 1990 - in the notorious "ashamed" Irish 0-0 draw.
Ahmed Shobeir was booked for repeatedly time-wasting in that game, in a match seen as influential to the introduction of the back-pass rule.

What is Snicko in football?
The technology that helped VAR disallow Croatia’s equaliser vs Portugal is called "Connected Ball Technology" just like cricket's Snickometer (Snicko).
A microchip inside the match ball detects every touch in real time, creating waveform spikes that show the exact moment of contact. This helps officials determine:
• Deflections
• Handballs
• Exact touch points for offside decisions
In Croatia’s case, the chip confirmed Igor Matanovic had the faintest touch before the ball reached Mario Pasalic, resetting the offside phase and leading to Josko Gvardiol's goal being ruled out.
It’s not "sound" like cricket’s Snicko, it is sensor based data, making football decisions faster and more precise.
It’s been a mad 15 years. It’s had everything thrown in there, from the highest highs to the lowest lows (on and off the field 😜).
My time was up, and no one was going to be able to make that decision other than me.
But in the meantime, I just want to say I ❤️ every single England fan and every single cricket fan who’s supported me over the years.
I ❤️ every single person I’ve walked out onto the field with representing England.
I could go on and on, but I hope you get the gist of how much I loved doing what I did for 15 years.
I’m looking forward to being a fan and supporting the team, and the odd day in hospitality won’t go amiss 🤣.
Family, friends, teammates, fans… I ❤️ yas all.

That 135 vs Aus at Headingley, remains a favourite & perhaps a defining point in his career. The memorable counter attack with 9 wickets down, a true masterclass in batting with the tail, shielding Jack Leach to chase down 359, has to be one of the best test innings of all time. The world cricket will miss you sorely, Ben Stokes.
A historic win! 👏
🗓️ #OnThisDay in 2009, Pakistan won the T20 World Cup at the @HomeOfCricket after defeating Sri Lanka in the final by eight wickets 🏆

I have been going to England for cricket for 25 years and Qamar Ahmed was always there, with a smile, with warmth, and with a bag of wicked stories. He had a way of instantly making you his own. For me, something essential, and inevitable, is gone from the Lord’s press box.
Very saddened to hear of the passing of the generous and large hearted Qamar Ahmad or Q, as we inevitably called him. He helped me a lot on my first tour of England in 1990 where I was a wide-eyed novice on most matters. And I won't forget his emotionally told story of going back to the family village in India, while on tour with Pakistan, where he was warmly received with stories of his father. Always greeted me with a hearty laugh. I have only warm memories of Q and I will be surprised if anyone else has any other. Khuda Hafiz Q Bhai. Salaam.
