@EddieComeaux I think that we need to get rid of SRO's at K-12 schooling, but I think they may be somewhat necessary at universities. A reduction in funding and increased funding for other community organizations to take over some aspects of SRO's on campus is necessary #racialjustice
@mishii921 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely I totally agree! It only makes sense that these athletes facing demanding schedules and workloads are given extra help for their contributions to their schools. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
HBCU's should focus on creating detailed and individualized intervention programs that will benefit college athletes even after they leave college. In doing so, we will see continued success among African American college athletes. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@EricECalderon @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely They don't! the NCAA essentially acts as a strongman in the athletics field, subtly punishing those who disobey the rules. As such, we see very few student athletes and colleges directly challenge the NCAA #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
To help promote fair practices,I believe athletes should be able to join unions and engage in collective bargaining. Allowing these students to bargain collectively will help to pinpoint weaknesses or issues within the college athletics system #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@AparicioArleth@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree! There needs to be more transparency with how colleges allocate funding towards athletics programs on campus!
#ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
In order to create a system where athletes do not suffer from a loss of compensation, the NCAA should do away with amateurism. This would not hurt athletes and would remove such things as scholarship caps. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@mishii921 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely This would be great in helping college athletes transfer to other schools! I hope this gets implemented soon. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
It's crazy that the NCAA penalizes athletes is they try to transfer to another institution! One-time transfer exceptions should apply to all sports (like football and basketball), not just the ones that don't bring in as much revenue. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@kamillahjamila@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree! It's crazy that college athletes our age are suffering from a poorly implemented concussion education system. #Ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
The NCAA should mandate that colleges implement a unified concussion management plan to help improve the oftentimes lackluster concussion education programs that are found across colleges today. #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@AparicioArleth@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar It's crazy that this is occurring during the 21st century! We need to take a good look at the misuse of privilege in the U.S. with the NCAA. Using Title IX as an excuse to eliminate men's sports programs is outrageous! #ucr150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
While Title IX has been beneficial in reducing discrimination towards female athletes, it is too commonly used as an excuse for colleges to reduce men's sports. Blaming Title IX as a cause for a reduction in sports is not okay! #Ucr150
@rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
@ArianaMaganaPe1@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree that it's unfair that student athletes only receive a 1 year scholarship. There are multiple scholarships offered to other students that apply over 4 years, why can't it be done for athletes? #educ150 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely
Without a formal union or arrangement that provides students with bargaining power over letters of intent, the NCAA is able to run things their way. This results in students being coerced into signing letters that trap them in an unfair system #Educ150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@Brian_PC01 @rabea_qamar @MisssNallely This isn't fair, and it is sad to see that cartels like the NCAA are able to profit directly from students. While scholarships are a way for students to get some type of aid for their contributions, they are ultimately minimal. #ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
The NCAA utilizes students as a pure means for profit. It is clear that the NCAA has a disregard for students themselves, as college athlete graduation rates have been notoriously low and athletes lack a unified healthcare program. #Ucr150@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
@kamillahjamila@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar I agree. This article expanded a lot upon our readings and the personal stories made it very insightful and more relatable. #ucr150
College athletes are not objects and do not deserve to be exploited. In order to create reform, college athletes must communicate, create plans, and set an agenda to create objectives for reform. https://t.co/J5gXP3wnxD @helloJuJudy@MisssNallely @rabea_qamar
