@emorganed109 I think it is so important to keep in mind that students may know more about HOW to use a technology, but we are more capable to think critically about it and have to help them see that. Or even have to do that thinking ourselves before we introduce one
@MarvAddams your quote that if there is no meaning behind the art (even with technology) it won't matter really sticks out to me. I believe we can expand that to ANY activity without meaning will not matter, specifically when we try to bring in technology
@SusanWees@sciam These are very interesting questions and ones I think are VERY important to keep asking, even if we cannot find answers right away. It's so important to consider the pros & cons!
@stephdana12@voxdotcom I believe that as long as we keep discussing the changing and are critical of them, this will help us as a society. Although this isn't always easy...
@stephdana12@voxdotcom this is a very scary, yet interesting reality! I agree that things are changing way quicker than we can handle. But in my book, the Shane Hipps states that "Media and technology have far less power to shape us when they are brought into the light and we understand them." #ed109
In Flickering Pixels, Shane Hipps states that multiple studies link watching TV at a young age with ADHD. So much of technology is about constantly changing stimuli. I have also found that yoga, meditation & breathing help me calm down from the techno-induced world #ed109
I feel like we all are so quick to point out the negatives of technology, but number 6 in this article is quite interesting & very beneficial. I think as a society we are already starting to swing back the other way in some areas https://t.co/XxEH8v3zga #ed109
@stephdana12 I definitely find myself not actually thinking before I google something. In Flicker Pixels by Shane Hipps he states that with the invention of writing it limits our ability for our short-term/quick factual memory. Google has made that even more of a reality
Cons: time-consuming, no way of knowing what is truth (easy ways to edit pictures), only see the "highlights," and like Shane Hipps says in Flickering Pixels pictures turn people into objects rather than real people & since insta is all pictures this can happen easily #ed109#NOT
I use instagram every. single. day. I have set a time limit for how long I can use it because I could be on for hours. Pros: used for motivation (workouts & recipes), ways to connect, a fun way to share your life, way to connect with similar people #ed109#NOT
@stephdana12 I really like how you changed your though process from a summative assessment to creating one for a more formative. I found it hard to find formative assessments for language, but I like how you led up to the podcast (I will definitely steal that!)
@stephdana12 I really liked Thinglink as a fellow language person! I think that if we can teach our students to create these themselves it will help the connect even more with the vocabulary and content! #ed109
@Saarruuuh This is the same thing I want to use my classroom also! I, as a 24-year-old, really want to access this myself but can only imagine how awesome our students think this will be. SO much of school is us trying to get our students to think about the world and this allows it #ed109
