@Reboticant@viceroy_gaga What is your source for this? AFICT flirt girls were paid the California minimum wage because of labor laws, not profit sharing in any sense.
@viceroy_gaga@literally_chad At the risk of mansplaining, pimping: I doubt the organizers are getting any cut of the future revenue of any sex worker that attended.
@viceroy_gaga@literally_chad The flirt girls had to apply and were paid the California minimum wage, as I understand, because of California labor law. Very few of them were active sex workers, I guess somewhere between 1-5% out of over a hundred women. Many women attended for free as a +1 of an attendee.
@NathanMcNulty@ZackKorman@grok on balance, do you think bans reduce the supply of a technology in society? Some positive examples are treaties around nuclear/biological/chemical weapons, gun bans in Australia, automatic rifles in the United States. Look at counter examples. Where does frontier AI fit?
Just to update this chart:
1) AI salience has increased dramatically in the past week - increasing as much in the last week as the previous year combined
2) 80% of voters think it's either very or somewhat likely that AI will cause widespread job loss in the five to ten years
3) 64% of voters think it's either very or somewhat likely that AI could pose a threat to humanity's survival
4) Large bipartisan majorities back immediate government action on AI even when primed about risk from China
I’m helping organize the next Stop the AI Race protest on Sat, July 11th 12pm. We’re asking OpenAI, Anthropic and Google to commit to a pause to frontier AI development if other labs would do the same. We'll be holding rallies in front of OpenAI, Anthropic and DeepMind in SF.
@Aella_Girl Neuroticism is strongly correlated with happiness in general; I'd expect this for any X being good or bad. It'd be interesting to find something with this opposite trends.
@The_Kyle_Mann@Amtrak@grok what is the likelihood of dying from an assault in an Amtrak train compared to dying in a car accident per passenger mile traveled?
Many AI executives have said they think the tech they're building has a worryingly high chance of ruining the world. Props to Demis for acknowledging the obvious implication: that ideally, the whole world should stop this reckless racing.
@DanielcHooper Specialized knowledge isn't necessary. "This is slow, make it faster" -> loops become vectorized.
I'd be curious if just giving high-level feedback is enough for it to make the specific optimizations you want.
