Finalizing our vegetable module in Intro to Horticulture!
Students tasted, identified, and classified different fruits/vegetables and designed resilient Zone 3 garden plans.
Such a great way to blend science with real world planning!
Fresh off the press! I’m excited to share that another chapter of my dissertation has been published. You can read the paper here: https://t.co/BSEhnLVOoC
Can you schedule a crop? My Commercial Fall Crops students can! 💪🏼
They’ve been mastering crop scheduling, planning timing, growth, and management all the way to market week. And what better crop to learn with than poinsettias!
These greenhouses have never looked prettier! ❤️
Hands-on learning in action! My Intro to Horticulture students explored apple diversity today learning about varieties, sensory traits, and the apple industry in Minnesota. A fun (and delicious!) way to connect science with local agriculture. 🍏 #Horticulture#UMNCrookston#UMN
So proud of my amazing @UMNCrookston horticulture students!
They won 1st place overall at the Mid-America Collegiate Horticultural Society (MACHS) 2025 competition!
Thanks @UWRiverFalls for hosting such an amazing event! Excited for MACHS 2026 at @IowaStateU!

Blueberries are a fun and rewarding plant to grow in your home garden! Proper fertilization ensures healthy growth and supports abundant berry production. Credits: @legoldsby and @GNunezUF
@EvergladesREC has a rich history of helping growers remain competitive and profitable.
That legacy is carried on by researchers like German Sandoya. The Belle Glade-based @UFPlantbreeding expert is working to develop cultivars for Florida's shrinking #lettuce industry.
Excited to share the final prototype for our root observation window, which will be used to observe & analyze blueberry roots right in the field! The removable acrylic window allows for sampling of roots without excising them from the plant. @GNunezUF
First time looking at a blueberry bud through a CT-scan. I’m looking forward to sharing our research and more CT images in a upcoming publication! @DrScanley@GNunezUF
@ssbenevenute has continued to rock her 🫐 reproductive biology research. She recently planted the first blueberry field that will be managed for fall production in FL. This project is supported by an @FDACS grant
This is how we started our summer… with a new blueberry field that has a lot of interesting projects to provide answers to Florida blueberry growers #FloridaAg
The ultimate test of success is not whether you're proud of what you've achieved. It's whether you're proud of who you've become.
Accomplishments highlight your skills. Relationships reveal your values.
If excellence is what you do, character is what you do for others.
