@SimonMahan FERC issues a 206 filing with some good points and “invites” and “expects” TOs and RTOs to come with 205 filing to figure out details and FERC will give 205 discretion.
Excellent reporting from @jefftomich on yesterday's FERC filing from Midwest utilities seeking to extend their monopoly control of transmission development in SPP + MISO.
Story provides helpful context for why now: they are losing right of first refusal fights in the states.
LS Power Grid’s top priority is that our employees and contractors return home safe at the end of the day. We’re proud of our record of zero OSHA recordable incidents across our transmission utilities in 2024. #energytwitter#poweringthefuture#safety
LS Power Grid is committed to reliability: The average availability of our transmission utilities is higher than the industry average as reported by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) over the past five years!

The anti-ROFR trend has continued this year. The Iowa Legislature has so far declined to reenact ROFR, and bills to implement ROFR in Oklahoma and Wisconsin have stalled or been defeated. The anti-competitive label has become so toxic that proponents have even tried to disguise their proposals. @jneeley78
Right of First Refusal (ROFR) continues to fall in court after court. The US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit has restored the injunction against Indiana's #ROFR law. States passing ROFR are getting hauled into court and losing. (Thread)
Breaking News - federal court blocks Indiana Right of First Refusal law days before MISO Board awards billions in new transmission. Indiana is now open for competition!!. @FERC@MISO_energy@indystar@IndianaAFP https://t.co/GA2APUUZsd
The Fed Court declared a Texas law that grants in-state incumbents the exclusive right to own #transmission lines is unconstitutional, invalid, and unenforceable – a major win on cost savings for #consumers in @SPPorg, @MISO_energy & competition @FERC

#ThrowbackThursday fun fact: MISO’s first competitively awarded project, @LSPowerGroup’s Republic Transmission, was placed in service in 2020, ahead of schedule and within proposed cost commitments, underscoring the need for and benefit of competition in #transmission development
1/7 The recent PJM capacity auction saw a surprising (to many) spike in clearing prices. Energy markets are a complex system, so understanding the path that brought us to this point is important. Here's a breakdown of the key factors behind this shift:

A strong consumer protection order from @FERC. Competitive processes deliver greater legal accountability for getting transmission built-on time and on-budget.
The design and existence of transmission competitive processes creates more accountability and oversight for getting #transmission built on-time and on-budget.
An unanimous, 3-0 @FERC delivered a win for consumers last week (https://t.co/VGSUvuqXRm)
@AriPeskoe I’m encouraged that the day after Order 1920 rehearing requests were due FERC comes out with a show cause order mentioning governance. It is a topic that has been largely ignored but imperative for a cost effective transmission.
