Human flourishing is best achieved via a free and virtuous society. Freedom to choose. God is not found prior to reason, but on the far side of reason.
@JeremyTate41 Fixing our broken culture will take a long and sustained effort to push back on the beliefs of a secular culture increasingly untethered from objective truths. Until then, we need to have armed and trained guards wearing body armor standing sentry in every school.
As a post said in response to the pope, this is the church preparing to be the "vault of humanity." The Catholic response to AI has been the most coherent, the most compelling.
(and hat tip to @stevengberman for the great point)
“The Church is intolerant in principle because she believes; she is tolerant in practice because she loves. The enemies of the Church are tolerant in principle because they do not believe; they are intolerant in practice because they do not love.”

Friends, I stopped by San Luigi dei Francesi, the national church of France, today while in Rome to see the four restored Caravaggios. Thank you to the staff who graciously allowed us in and treated us to a marvelous presentation.
While standing in this great church dedicated to St. Louis and France, I couldn’t help but think of Pope Leo’s recent visit and the response he received. Amid talk of secularization and loss of faith, young people filled an arena cheering for the saints of the eldest daughter of the Church. Something is happening in the West. I pray that this revival, which is gaining momentum, continues.
Leo’s answer could hardly be clearer: “There is only one ‘roadmap,’ which is always the same: to make Jesus Christ known and loved, authentically, passionately, again and again.”
@MarcelLeJeune To be fair, Catholic schools are a big part of the parish’s budget and are of course a primary means of formation. School vouchers are attracting more non-Catholic families to our schools. This is fertile ground for the new evangelization.
@MarcelLeJeune Marcel, This perspective is spot on. It’s analogous to looking at someone’s checkbook register or perhaps personal budget (if they have one), to determine what’s important to them; where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

Yesterday, in anticipation of our nation’s 250th anniversary, the United States of America was consecrated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today is the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. Have mercy on all our priests, O tender Heart of Jesus.
Professor of Astronomy at Harvard University Karin Oberg, is a convert to Catholicism from agnosticism. GK Chesterton’s Orthodoxy played an important role in the conversion of Oberg, who is known for discovering the first complex molecule in a protoplanetary disk.
My dad built something truly special out of nothing.
He walked away from a lucrative Big Law job to launch something unheard of--fighting for everybody's religious liberty? Even the religions you disagree with?
It was a huge risk--he would always half-joke that in Becket's first office, you couldn't open the door all the way because it would hit his desk. They had many tough months getting off the ground--and he always paid himself last, if at all. But he never lost faith because he knew in his heart he was doing it in service to God.
Today, Becket has dozens of Supreme Court precedents--Little Sisters of the Poor, Hobby Lobby, etc--to its name and is largely responsible for the words "under God" remaining in the Pledge of Allegiance.
My dad kept running Becket while battling Parkinson's for years--and then had the humility to step away when the time was right (a rare trait in Washington!)
A truly special organization founded by a truly special man.
Honored to have written a foreword alongside @ArchCordileone for this important new book.
My argument in a nutshell:
“Postliberalism failed for a reason more fundamental than bad politics or bad history. It failed because it lacks an adequate account of human nature and civil society.”
The postliberals claim the classical tradition — Aristotle, Aquinas, natural law — but quietly drop its most fundamental tenet: the family is prior to the state.
The polis exists to serve the household. Not the other way around.

Top British attorney Natasha Hausdorff stunned the audience by completely destroying the Palestinian narrative about the conflict. The truth the world refuses to accept:
Palestine never existed as a sovereign Arab state.
The British Mandate of Palestine was a British territory taken from the defeated Ottoman Empire after 1917. Jews lived continuously in the Holy Land for centuries — long before modern Zionism. They were the majority in Jerusalem under Ottoman rule. Jews legally bought desert land (including the area that became Tel Aviv) and turned it into thriving cities and kibbutzim. Not a single Arab was displaced by these purchases.
The Arabs rejected the 1947 UN partition plan and launched war to destroy the newborn Jewish state. They lost. During that war, Arab armies ordered local Arabs to flee so they could “push the Jews into the sea.” Many did exactly that.
Israel has never committed genocide. It has fought for survival against repeated attempts to commit genocide against the Jewish people. Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran’s regime are the real obstacles to peace in the Middle East.
The historical facts are clear. The propaganda is not.
