We're all in this together as pet lovers-I don't mind your questions. Thank you for your kindness and I'm sorry about your pup.
I think one of the harder things is that we really thought we were doing everything right. Homemade (cooked) dog food, filtered water, no medicines (besides Heartgard), no shots, (besides Rabies which we have to do) a huge fenced in yard. We only walk them on our own property-so they're never exposed to pesticides etc.
We couldn't have taken better care of them and she still got cancer. It's crushing.
That and not having any idea we were going to lose her.
How do you say goodbye to your best friend? I'm completely and utterly shattered. She loved me so unconditionally and so purely, in a way no human is worthy of.
And without any notice, she's just gone, forever.
The pain is insurmountable.
And my poor Schnauzer is lost.
@WilkesRosebud I understand. There's no replacing, of course. But saving another life in need, a distraction and a new BFF for my Schnauzer. Who I'm very worried about. Thank you for telling me.
Did it help?
A lot of people are saying that....which I've always read that the best help is to adopt another. I'm afraid another dog will be so different, I won't love it as much.
Although I adore my other dog and he's very different. Oh gosh, I don't even know. This is the worst.
@JREHodges Shadow is beautiful! I love Shepards! Thank you for the pic! And nope, despite the awful pain, we wouldn't trade her, or the almost 14 years we had her, for anything.
I'm so sorry your dog is ill, but I'm very happy to hear he's recovering! That's fantastic! That's a great way of looking at it, that the price we pay for their love is the pain of losing them. I appreciate that word of wisdom.
I keep thinking "was it really worth it to go through all this pain"? Yes. Yes it absolutely was. I wouldn't trade having been Blessed with her for anything.
