@cannyfartright2 It’s really good to know that you were one of those who had an easier time with this procedure than many others have had. It’s the same with childbirth - experiences can vary dramatically. But I will never undergo a hysteroscopy again without pain relief, for me it was horrific.

@cannyfartright2 Genuinely delighted yours was easy and no worse than a contraction. Mine wasn’t - brutal and horrific pain and clinically diagnosed with severe PTSD afterwards. Women need to know that both types of experiences might happen and make informed choice about anaesthetic accordingly.

@cannyfartright2 I agree, women are all different, as is their medical history. All patients of Hysteroscopy should be heard and believed. Good and Bad. Truthful data is the only good advice. Really pleased yours was pain and trauma free, mine- horrific

@cannyfartright2 I'm so happy that yours was fairly painless, it's not this way for all women. I'm still traumatized from the pain of my first one (with no sedation or painkillers), I'd say similar pain to my labour except thankfully shorter.

The pain of hysteroscopy can’t be totally predicted because NHS failed to collect any evidence during the last 20 years when this would have been very easy to do. Instead listened to a few influential gynaecologists with anecdotal opinions.

Also in the Alabama ruling on frozen embryos is this:

“Doctors must create just one embryo at a time. Each embryo, no matter how poor its quality, must be transferred. Only one embryo may be transferred at a time. If the cycle fails, the whole process must start all over again.

IVF patients would have to accept the transfer of a single low-quality embryo that is certain to fail—and to do so one embryo at a time. Each transfer requires months’ worth of expensive medication, including injectable, both before and after the procedure. And each failed cycle requires the patient to start all over again. Most states (including Alabama) do not require insurance to cover IVF, and each cycle can cost up to $30,000. This would force patients—the ones who can afford it—to undergo doomed, single-embryo transfers, one by one.”

If you know ANYONE who has been through IVF, you know exactly how fucking cruel this is.

Pain control/ anaesthetic should be part of the consent process. This is just not happening for most women @NHSGIRFT @DHSCgovuk policy is designed to deny choice.
