Only when you ignore or try to rewrite the history, can you say that the playing field was level and that black Americans couldn’t compete or that the difficulties that many face are entirely of their own making. The historical boot on the neck was to insure that the slave-descendant (specifically!!) remained at the bottom of society. We see the consequences to this day, which have weakened certain communities and America, as a whole. But many Americans would have the legacy of racist discrimination be stronger than our country.

Today in 1946 WWII veteran Maceo Snipes was shot in his back by the KKK the day after he became the first Black person to cast a vote in Taylor County, Georgia.

After he was shot, Mr. Snipes walked three miles to the hospital with his mother. For six hours doctors left him waiting and bleeding. By the time he was seen, he needed a blood transfusion. The doctors said the hospital had no “black blood.” Snipes died two days later.
