CPUs are not a GPU substitute. They are the other half of the agent stack. Demand is already tight.
$AMD printed a fifth straight record server-CPU quarter. Cloud and enterprise each grew more than 70% year on year.
Lisa Su guided server sales +80% in the second half of 2026 and +70% in 2027 off a much higher base.
Venice demand is stronger than any prior EPYC generation. Industry checks say 2028 volume is already being booked.
Yield noise looks overstated.
High-end EPYC lead times stretched because the spike was not fully modeled.
Agentic inference pulls the CPU back. Agents plan, retrieve, call tools, spawn sub-agents and keep GPUs fed. That work is branchy and latency-sensitive.
Analysts now model the CPU-to-GPU core ratio rising from 8–12 today toward a much higher mix on agent nodes.
BofA and UBS have lifted server-CPU TAM from $35 billion in 2025 toward $170–220 billion by 2030.
AI CPUs become most of that mix.
AMD already takes 46% of x86 server CPU revenue on 33% of units. That is premium mix, not just sockets.
Venice is the vehicle: 2 nm Zen 6, up to 256 cores, first PCIe Gen 6 server CPU, CoWoS moving into mainstream CPUs.
Morgan Stanley has Venice at 6.75 million units in 2027 versus about 1.25 million in 2026.
GPUs still own the dollars. CPUs are the underpriced bottleneck if agent workloads scale.

AMD announced a definitive agreement to acquire World Labs for about $8.2B, paid entirely in AMD stock, with closing expected by end of 2026. Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as executive vice president and chief scientist, reporting directly to Lisa Su. World Labs builds spatial intelligence models: its Marble product generates editable 3D environments from text, images or video, and its new Atlas model predicts new camera views from 2D images, solving a long standing computer vision problem called sparse reconstruction. The startup raised $1B in February 2026 from backers including Nvidia, AMD, Autodesk and Fidelity, and had reportedly been targeting a $5B valuation, so AMD is paying a premium over the last round.
There will never be another Elon Musk.
Love him or hate him, the man has changed technology, space travel, communication, transportation, and the way people think about what’s possible.
Very few people in history have pushed humanity forward on that many fronts at once.
The dude is one of a kind!
BREAKING: AMD acquires Fei Fei Li’s World Labs in an $8,200,000,000 deal, bringing “spatial intelligence” directly into its push across robotics, simulation and physical AI.
