We propose making Standard Time (NZST) permanent.
Daylight Saving (DST) is not suitable for NZ. Proposing to make DST permanent will mean 9am sunrises in winter, and 5.45pm sunsets, so there is little value.
NZST still gives NZ 8pm sunsets in summer, so there's no drawback.
@MarthaHabluetz1@KyleKacal It’s true! HB 1422’s permanent DST is federally forbidden, and for good reason. Its 8:30am sunrises threatened lives and business in 1974. Texans rejected it then. Stop HB 1422, amend it to permanent Standard Time. @LujanForTX@FourPriceTX@reptinderholt
@TakeBackClocks happy to work with you on implementing a permanent time and eradicate twice yearly clock changes. Lets focus on a year long moratorium so kiwis can see what summer is like in NZST. Advocating for one time or the other without such is unlikely to succeed.
@TakeBackClocks@ralph9 That is not at all what your petition says. You want permanent DST. That is the wrong way. Better to have a moratorium for 1 year and have a NZ summer with standard time given how few people know what NZ summer is like without DST. Then decide.
@TakeBackClocks No thanks. You’re encouraging the worst aspect. Permanent DST has worse outcomes for health and wellbeing. Any permanent time should be standard time.
For the kiwis that want “extra” daylight after work, hows this daylight treating you now? In standard time there would be no less! #EndDSTNZ#moratorium@top_nz
@theIouvrelorde@jsmnndrsn The problem there is the lack of flexibility with employers, not with the clocks. If you work from 8-5am normally, with DST you are literally starting work at 7am and finishing at 4pm. Flexible employers should allow that regardless of clock changes.
@MaibachEd Thanks for asking! We are trying to end Daylight Saving Time and go to year-round Standard Time which has health benefits and may also have energy benefits. You can look at my Twitter feed to read me and here’s a position statement i authored https://t.co/MMJ5oRwmIj
Daylight Saving is an anachronism. I know you have more important things to do @jantinetti but can NZ have a moratorium on DS just for one year to experience a standard time summer?
@Suzyiam @PointUser @RichardHills_ Well I see that Betsy has been triggered by moving to block rather than engage in good faith.
Regardless, to clarify, when DST happens, the clock time for sunrise is pushed ahead by an hour. In the middle of winter, sunrise would shift from around 7am to 8am by clock time.
@Suzyiam @PointUser @RichardHills_ Incorrect. If daylight saving time was made permanent in NZ, humans are indeed giving themselves an extra hour of darkness by tampering with clock time.
