The amazing thing is that the engine worked out of the box and it didn’t blow up on the track. Bravo to the four engine guys at Isuzu.
I read up a little more about the story of Isuzu and the McLaren F1 roadcar. Gordon Murray did not approach Isuzu, Isuzu got wind of McLaren’s plans and offered to do a V12 engine for McLaren. Gordon Murray declined because he worried the Isuzu name was not a prestigious name.
@Masuzoh_twt Adrian Newey went to the US and worked as Bobby Rahal’s race engineer in Indycar in the mid 1980’s. Rahal and Newey kept a good relationship even after Newey went back to the UK to become the Chief Designer at Leyton House F1 team.
@Masuzoh_twt Indycar titan Bobby Rahal was involved in the early phase of the (Ford) team. He tried to bring Adrian Newey to the team but Ron Dennis managed to keep Newey at McLaren for another few years before he joined Red Bull.
