A Survival Crisis Z meets Hotline Miami experiment that shows how modern effects can make even placeholder pixel art sprites come alive.

Pixel art in 3d with lighting experiment.
1. Smooth with a hard cut-off
2. Smooth with dithered edges
3. Bands
3. Bands with dithered edges
IMHO number 1 looks the best.

@HandofBot Thanks. Around 900. I tried with several thousands on Raspberry PI 5 on FullHD and it doesn’t even sweat. I did some optimizations though, like zombies are chunked and each chunk moves on its frame.
There are several effects: tilt-shift (blur), a gradient on the zombies so they stay visible when they overlap, dithering on the ground, and an old-film look (flicker, grain, darkened corners). The video is a seamless loop. Visuals inspired by the game O EMPIRE! WARD OFF THY ROT.
@raysan5 TIOBE counts the number of pages with the lang name. Objective-c has over 20m pages, while C has only 11m. This explains why Objective-C has a high TIOBE ranking. But hardly anyone reads Objective-C pages, says Google Trends data.

Screenshot 1 contains some weird ground lines. It's due to shading and z fighting. My camera has a perspective projection with a very narrow FoV and my zfar - znear was 2000. Shading exposed the problem. Screenshot 2 has no artifacts, zfar - znear is 100 now.

@ko_dll We’ve met on GDC last year and back then I wondered if the game is going to be really profitable. Don’t get me wrong, I truly wished you luck, but this genre just doesn’t seem to be really popular.

This is a great tutorial about blender and low poly. After watching and playing with blender a bit, it doesn't feel like a mission impossible anymore.

Fun fact: Fallout 1 & 2 are not isometric, they use a trimetric projection. You can create such projection in 3D with Projection: orthogonal with angles x: -25.7°; y: -30°; z: 0° basically in any engine (Godot in this case).

So I resumed my prototype after a while. I wasn't very satisfied with my own art-style, so I bought @penusbmic's Stranded asset pack and the art style fits REALLY well💚#gamedev
Here is the link to the asset pack:
