Genesis Prize Co-Founder Natan Sharansky has written the foreword to President George W. Bush's new book, "The Call of Freedom."

Denied permission to leave the Soviet Union for Israel, Sharansky became the world's best-known refusenik — and, from a prison cell, one of the most powerful voices for human rights of his generation.

That same conviction is why he helped found the Genesis Prize: Jewish values call us to defend the dignity and freedom of every human being.

Out March 9, 2027, the book features 44 portraits painted by President Bush — among them María Corina Machado, the Dalai Lama, Rushan Abbas, Bishop Rolando José Álvarez Lagos and Jina Mahsa Amini.

The people treating Israel's trauma are carrying plenty of their own.

Gal Gadot directed her $1 million Genesis Prize toward mental health and trauma care. With matching donations, the initiative has grown to $3 million for 24 Israeli nonprofits, including support for medics, therapists and caregivers.

Gal Gadot, the Israeli actress named as the laureate of the 2026 Genesis Prize, will distribute $3 million to some two dozen Israeli organizations focusing on mental health and trauma care.

The prize, known as the “Jewish Nobel,” comes with a $1 million award that laureates have traditionally dedicated to a philanthropic cause. Through a matching program with the Jewish Funders Network group of philanthropists, that sum has been expanded to $3 million.

The groups receiving grants include the United Hatzalah emergency service and Make-A-Wish Israel, according to reports.

“After three years of war, loss, and extraordinary hardship, I believe recovery starts from within,” Gadot, best known for playing Wonder Woman on screen, says in a statement posted to Instagram.
