Hot take: BA.2 variant is spreading quickly in U.S. but we’re under testing because of “Covid is over” narrative. My daughter’s college campus (northeast US) has rapidly rising cases again after a quiet 2nd half of Jan/1st half of Feb. All vaxxed/boosted. Some already had BA.1.

BREAKING: Gov. Youngkin has just signed into law SB 739 to lift the mask mandate.

This strips from school districts the ability to provide accommodations for immunocompromised kids, including the masking of those around them, who deserve to go to school like everyone else.

HIV+ kids were therapeutically abandoned and died in the late 1990s even as adults took lifesaving ART. 25 yrs later, the same is true of kids with COVID. No paxlovid or sotrovimab <12yo. No vaccine <5yo. More than 1200 kids have died. Regulations are on the books. Come on FDA.

All workers in VA are less safe now. These minimal safety standards required PPE to be provided in high risk settings (like hospital ERs or meat processing plants), and for businesses to have policies to prevent huge outbreaks. Seems… reasonable?

On my way to work I got a call from babysitter that her toddler’s daycare closed due to COVID. I couldn’t call on my neighbors bc they all have COVID. I couldn’t ask my partner to leave work bc he has to do extra shifts at hospital bc COVID.
