THIS CRISIS IS ONGOING IN FORT CHIPEWYAN: Leaders in Fort Chipewyan held a press conference this morning to announce high levels of contaminants such as heavy metals, uranium, hydrocarbons well above legal limits around the Big Dock and shores surrounding the small community in Northern Alberta. Fort Chipewyan leaders state Transport Canada has known about these contaminants since 2017 but did not tell the community- instead they found out via a third party. “This is environmental racism. This is deadly,” said ACFN Chief Allan Adam. The source of contaminants is believed to be linked to Alberta oil sands upstream, naturally occurring bitumen & other industrial activities.
