China Manned Space Program officially announced the selection of two proposals of low-cost cargo spacecraft to CSS today. The "Qingzhou" space capsule from Microsat, CAS and the "Haolong" spaceplane from CADI, AVIC are selected, securing contracts for flight validation.
This morning, Space Transportation successfully completed the test flight of its Cloudwalker supersonic demonstrator, which features a high lift-to-drag ratio waverider aerodynamic configuration and a all-composite structure.
@Erdayastronaut Both CALT and SAST are developing cryogenic rockets to replace their hypergolic ones. Both companies are modifying first stages with grid fins and CALT is testing boosters with parachutes to reduce the landing zone. However, I totally agree that much more effort needs to be made.
@Kedrskie i-Space might be the first to start hop tests, and Pioneer Space follows. Deep Blue Aerospace is also likely to join the club later in 2021. No schedule update from CALT/SAST regarding their reusable rocket but I guess at least one of them will set the first major milestone too.
