Currently not all mums and families receive the specialist #PerinatalMentalHealth care they need. A better understanding of those whose needs are less well met is vital and action must be taken to make sure maternal mental health care is equitable for all. #TurnTheMapGreen#MMHAW
Just some examples of stimming. Self-stimulatory behaviour gives autistic individuals control over sensory stimuli & a way to regulate their emotions. Unless it's dangerous to someone's health it shouldn't be discouraged as it's a vital method of self-regulation #AutismAcceptance
@PNDandMe Do whatever makes you feel comforted eg watching movies, write down positive affirmation, taking a walk in nature cos nature can be very soothing, listen to music. Write down things like I am enough, I am okay. Remember this is a phase and will pass. #PNDHour
@PNDandMe Anxiety arises from when we don't feel safe & secure. So reassurance that all is okay helps, talking to people you trust about your worries & concerns help, exercise can help you be in the moment. Speaking to MH professional helps. #PNDHour
@MothersUncoverd@PNDandMe The shaming of people experiencing anxiety can be a barrier to them seeking the help they deserve & this is unfair. The pregnancy journey right through to childbirth is very traumatic & life changing. So it is understandable that people experience change to their MH #PNDHour
@CYP_UoB_Kelvin @PNDandMe Anxiety tend to creep up on people this is why it can take time to understand what is happening and process the change. It can be hard to seek help due to this and understanding the triggers for anxiety is challenging. Anxiety happens when we feel unsafe #PNDHour
@divamumwrites @PNDandMe So sorry about your experience. Sadly this sounds familiar, most time people with anxiety don't get the help they deserve until they hit crisis point . Also sometimes peoples anxiety are not taken as seriously as they shld. #PNDHour
@PNDandMe People need help to recognise the symptoms of anxiety this is why awareness campaign will go a long way in helping people to recognise the symptoms and seeking help. #PNDHour
@PNDandMe Recognising anxiety can be difficult for some people especially if they've never experienced it or been told about it. Also describing the symptoms to a prof can be challenging because people have difference experience. #PNDHour
Tonight we're talking about recognising and managing anxiety. Was there anything that made you think that you maybe needed some support with your anxiety? #PNDHour
@PNDandMe With perinatal mental illness it can hard to manage expectations especially with the amount of pressure placed on the parents from all sectors of society. This can make people confused on what exactly they need to do.#PNDHour
@coxc41@PNDandMe This happens to some people & that is okay. Sometimes we just need to have an open mind approach this way we can own what expectations we discover. There is no right or wrong expectations. #PNDHour
