The amount of people who are seemingly fans of our sport who are either willfully or ignorantly misrepresenting the qualification standards for world champs is wild to me. It has to be engagement bait, right?
Standards are designed to achieve 40% of the target number. Other 60% through World Rankings. This is very simple stuff. Last time they were aiming for 50% so yah, they got harder 🤯
So incredibly sad. Had the pleasure of working alongside Parker at numerous World Champs and Olympics over the years.
He was super knowledgeable, a great writer and a devoted family man.
Alison Wade, founder & editor of @fast_women, lost her husband Parker Morse this morning. He was 52 and died unexpectedly.
Equal parts brilliant & kind, Parker was the original webmaster for @runnersworld when the website launched in 1996.
He was the father of twin daughters.
Wind curse continues for @itsgabbyt, this time in Nairobi, a -1.1m/s wind denying her a potential sub-11.
With a perfect 2.0m/s, it would have been a 10.82.
If she'd had 2.0m/s winds in her 15 fastest races, she'd have 12 sub-11s to her name.
Alas, her PB remains 11.00.

I’ve really struggled to stay engaged on here since Twitter became all Musky.
Trying things out over on Bluesky. Can’t promise I’ll be as active there as I once was on here but let’s give it a go.

Georgia Bell, who returned to athletics in June last year after a career in duathlon, is now an Olympic medallist, British record-holder, and sits third on the European all-time list.
Nafi Thiam's winning margin tonight, when winning her 11th major title (global/continental), was just 36 points over KJT.
Her only winning margin smaller than that was when she won her first major title, the 2016 Olympic crown, by just 35 points from Jess Ennis-Hill.
The women's event has been similarly revolutionised.
Up until 2019, there'd been just 3 sub-52.50s in history. Fast forward 5 years and there are now 27, with Femke Bol leading the way.
11 - Bol
8 - McLaughlin-Levrone
4 - Muhammad
1 - Pechonkina
1 - Walker
1 - Little
1 - Demus
From 1992 until 2018, there had been just one sub-47-second performance ever in the 400m hurdles.
That barrier has now been broken 26 times, 25 of those coming in the past six years, and 11 of them by @kwarholm
11 - Warholm
7 - Benjamin
6 - Dos Santos
1 - Young
1 - Samba
World indoor two miles best for Josh Kerr at Millrose Games, 8:00.67.
Only two men (Daniel Komen and Jakob Ingebrigtsen) have ever bettered that time outdoors.
His mile splits:
4:03.63
3:57.04
I’m always amazed by the number of media people who never miss an opportunity to make a celebrity’s death about themselves—either by sharing a picture of them together or pretending they knew each other.
It’s not so hard to remain dignified in this kind of situations, is it?
