Just attended the Jesus Christ Superstar matinee at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre. Michael Paynter’s portrayal of Jesus was powerful, and the production was visually stunning. However, the darker tone and overwhelming amplification differed significantly from the original 1972 London production I remember. Also, the use of handheld mics and some audience disruptions impacted the experience. Overall, a 4.5/5 from me. Would love to hear others’ thoughts!
