Black Guillemot Holy Island, Northumberland seen in flight for short distance close to shore south of the castle, then landed on the sea 10:45am @BirdGuides@RareBirdAlertUK@NTBirdClub
Total of 6 Night Herons present now!!! 4 visible & vocal @ 9:20pm in usual bush when amazingly another flew in!! 10 mins later 3 flew off together leaving 2. More amazingly, when these 2 flew off to feed at 9:35, another one followed!!! @nybirdnews@RareBirdAlertUK@BirdGuides
Still 4 Night Herons at Bolton on Swale YWT this evening. Became quite vocal in last half hour. 3 of them just did two circuits of the lake then left towards Ellerton Lake to fish. 1 still remaining 9pm @nybirdnews@RareBirdAlertUK@BirdGuides
Here are the other 4 birds: all 2cy except for the 3cy with green ring (which was sadly unreadable). The yellow-ringed bird was P5RY (I think🤞) but haven't sent it in yet @nybirdnews
2cy Caspian Gull (2nd right rear) Scorton Quarry this evening-one of 22 big gulls present. My 5th local Casp since 26th April out of well over 1.5k big gulls passing through in May (peaked at 1200+ on 11th) Only 2 of them had rings-both Casps & only one readable! @nybirdnews
2cy Caspian Gull at Scorton from 26th April (left bird) then 2 more late this evening-a more advanced 2cy & a 3cy. The latter bird has a green ring (but unreadable☹️). All cleared out before dark. Also 2 Wood Sandpipers, 5 Ringed Plovs & a Sanderling this evening @nybirdnews
Wet morning around Scorton area: 2 (m&f) Common Scoters on Scorton Lake. Same (3rd time in last week) 2cy Caspian Gull seen nearby before flying off SW, Y Wagtail & 3 Dunlin. Was hoping for terns and waders in this weather, but made do with ducks & gulls! @nybirdnews
Around Scorton/Bolton on Swale in the past week or so: Greenshank 1, Whimbrel 3 (2+1 on different evenings), Caspian Gull 2cy seen twice with 600+ Herrings. Today Garden Warbler x2, Sanderling x2, Wood Sandpiper x2, Dunlin x3, a single EWFGoose & big influx of Swifts @nybirdnews
A few of the Marsh Sandpiper at Boldon Flats this afternoon. Great bird to see in the north-east, constantly feeding and on show almost continuously @RareBirdAlertUK@BirdGuides
Just my 2nd Slavonian Grebe in the Scorton area in over 20yrs of birding here. Still just about birdable here at 6:30pm when these video grabs were taken. Camera ISO maxed out, as to all intents & purposes it was dark!! @nybirdnews
Driving home up the A1 late afternoon, just getting dark and met with spectacular Starling murmuration just south of junction 52. Needed trip to car wash on way home after sitting beneath it for 10 mins🤣
Drake Smew still @NosterfieldLNR Lingham Lake late afternoon. Earlier at Carthorpe still 100+ Russian White-fronted Geese & 5 un-ringed Barnacles, but fewer Pink-footed Geese today than on Saturday @nybirdnews
